Feb 17, 2011 11:44 PM - Brian Peters: Guys, it was a pleasure to to have my poor cleric's spend his dying breaths with such a fine group of adventurers... Perhaps the Bards will hear of our tale of woe and the party's valiant fight to the death and sing songs of lament of the deeds we did and the blood we spilled this day! :( thanks John, it was a good time!
Feb 17, 2011 11:37 PM - John McCullough: Woof! Rough night, fellas. I hope you had fun anyway. I know I did. Good game! Thanks for playing.
Feb 17, 2011 11:02 AM - John McCullough: Yes, we will be playing at CITI tonight.
Feb 17, 2011 7:14 AM - Brian Peters: We are showing up at CITI, correct?
Feb 11, 2011 8:38 AM - Rob R: I will show uo at whatever venue the DM and other players agree on. (Though I wouldn't miss SONY as it's a horrible set-up for me - location and hours)
Feb 11, 2011 12:20 AM - Brian Peters: fine with me... we are quiet and hardly noticeable... and I'm sure having to leave in the middle of COMBAT is going to make things harder for us, but REALLY difficult for you to pick up on next session. GREAT DMing sir, it has been a pleasure, and I hope we could continue this series w/ these characters soon!
Feb 10, 2011 11:49 PM - John McCullough: Please note: For the last session I would like to play at Citi. Sony just closes too early, and I can't get out of work any earlier.
Feb 10, 2011 5:54 PM - John McCullough: Alright folks, I'm leaving work now. See you soon.
Feb 10, 2011 1:11 PM - Rob R: Finally - sorry everyone for the threadjacking but I thought it would be good for all to understand where and why this idea of self-limiting started
Feb 10, 2011 1:11 PM - Rob R: Also - I think the branching out to include card playing and stuff beforehand (which I am not a part of) might be a little aggressive but ultimately it's the same night, so the extra footprint is minimal. Now the cards aspect *shrug* who knows! We're on good terms so I don't think it'll be a problem but if (when) they decide to ask us to leave, i wouldn't be suprised if they mention the card-playing (assuming it's still going one) just to add fuel to their reasons.
Feb 10, 2011 1:05 PM - Rob R: But this is all just asking people to play nice since anyone can decide to play anywhere. and to be truthful I wasn't to worried about this interfering since it's only one table a night. But since John did bring it up (and I was one of the ones banging the drums the loudest for the self-limiting) it would've been hypocritical of me to not "agree" to move to another location.
Feb 10, 2011 1:03 PM - Rob R: But to be fair, I think the LFR crowd does have some "squatters" rights. After all a bunch of them did a lot of legwork in getting us to be allowed to play there and cultivated relationships with the security guards & director. I bet the Pathfinder group that started playing at Cafe 28 before the LFR group showed up wished they claimed some "squatter" rights before the LFR group got them kicked out alongside them : )
Feb 10, 2011 1:00 PM - Rob R: Well - don't put me in the RPGAers group. After all we do have a lot of crossover between this new subset and the RPGA players (though I think we'll start to see people who do not enjoy the RPGA start to come out the woodwork for this - so kudos for setting it up)
Feb 10, 2011 12:58 PM - Rob R: Totally a "courtesy" request. I thought that was clear since the only one with "authority" are the people running Citicenter. And I don't think anyone has ever given the impression it came from them : ) But either way I do apologize because it could have easily been made clearer it was a request
Feb 10, 2011 12:43 PM - James L: But what if the Christian bible reading meetup, said: we read first testament on Tuesdays, no one else is allowed to go there and read at any other time out of courtesy to the first testament Tuesday readers. You RPGA players are in the works to start playing board games and card games there! WTF
Feb 10, 2011 12:36 PM - James L: I just want to make it clear it is a request from "courtesy", not a request from "authority". And both groups have an exact equal claim on the space. Currently, I would like this new fledgling group to have one less obstacle. When it is already in competition with the RPGA for players.
Feb 10, 2011 12:05 PM - Rob R: And it probably won't work but this is the hope. And I've resisted saying this before - but I'll say it now - when we were at Cafe 28, I repeatedly suggested we keep from growing / adding tables and multiple people said "don't worry, they make money from us, the tables are empty, we don't bother noone" How did that work out for us?
Feb 10, 2011 12:02 PM - Rob R: I agree we're in a lose-lose scenario. Other RPG and boardgame groups meet-up there and they all add to the "gamer" profile. At some point, if (when) these various groups cause problems, make messes, etc - we're probably get asked to leave. At that point hopefully, we can draw on the relationships we've developed with a couple guys and ask them to vouch that we're not a part of the problem and we're not associated with those other groups.
Feb 10, 2011 11:59 AM - Rob R: Yeah, that wouldn't hold water for me. But, if I was a member of the Christian book reading meetup and they asked me not to hold a third day of meet-ups at Citi, I would understand and not start a third weekly meet-up.
Feb 10, 2011 11:47 AM - James L: These aren't LFR games. What if some other meetup group, like the Christian book reading meetup, started telling us, "hey could you not come on a day we're not even here because you could ruin it for us"?
Feb 10, 2011 2:25 AM - Rob R: Ah - you worked the other OTHER 9 to 5 or the Second Shift as some of my friends refer to it. : )
Feb 9, 2011 5:50 PM - Brian Peters: See you guys at SONY!... should we start earlier? (I know it's last minute....)
Feb 9, 2011 5:49 PM - Brian Peters: @ Rob... 20 years of working 9 to 5.... 9pm to 5AM... I often don't go to SLEEP until 7 in the morning.
Feb 9, 2011 5:08 PM - John McCullough: We will be playing at SONY. I haven't played there yet and would like to check it out. See you guys tomorrow.
Feb 9, 2011 10:01 AM - Rob R: Oh, and Brian - if you went to sleep at normal hours, you can get up before noon. ; )
Feb 9, 2011 10:00 AM - Rob R: As far as tomorrow - John McCullough can decide where we are playing as it's short notice. But it sounds like we all agreed to play at Sony already.
Feb 9, 2011 9:59 AM - Rob R: James L is correct in that it is a public space. But that doesn't mean they don't have rules which they can enforce to kick us out. Of course, we can argue, sue, etc. But really? We'll just end up kicked out looking for a new place to play.
Feb 9, 2011 9:58 AM - Rob R: As a group, the LFR players decided to SELF-limit our presence at Citi. We were not originally accepted w/ open arms and took much discussions with management to even be allowed. So we wanted to avoid wearing out our welcome. As one of the original proponents of this - I say we continue to SELF-limit.
Feb 9, 2011 4:41 AM - Brian Peters: ok... now I'm confused... JOHN... Sony, or CITI?
Feb 8, 2011 11:50 AM - James L: I think I need to find a way to send reminders and any changes to time/schedule. I missed out on playing because I didn't check back.
Feb 8, 2011 11:35 AM - James L: Use Citi as much as you want. It is a PUBLIC space. The definition of public is anyone can use it.
Feb 8, 2011 11:06 AM - Scott p: i refuse to acknowledge
Feb 8, 2011 8:11 AM - Rob R: I thought I had posted something yesterday. Yes I'll be at Sony (assuming we get Scott P's acknowledgement).
Feb 7, 2011 5:14 PM - John: I haven't checked the Campaign Game area in awhile. Thanks for the venue swap and have a great game. I look forward to hearing what you guys think about the module once you're done.
Feb 7, 2011 10:40 AM - Brian Peters: http://www.meetup.com/NYC-DND/venue/1121398/?eventId=15908767&popup=true
Feb 7, 2011 10:23 AM - Capt_Dan: I'm happy with Sony
Feb 7, 2011 10:19 AM - Ross H: That's fine with me - where exactly is that?
Feb 7, 2011 9:30 AM - John McCullough: @Brian No Problem. Could everyone please RSVP that they got the message to move the game to SONY? Unless I hear back from everyone I think we'll have to keep the game at Citi this week. Thanks.
Feb 7, 2011 7:44 AM - Brian Peters: Guys... John (event organizer) is asking we move this game to Sony, as it was a decision a while back by the Meetup group to only be here two days a week so we don't wear our welcome thin with Citi building.
Feb 3, 2011 9:59 AM - Rob R: Welcoma aboard Scott
Feb 2, 2011 8:40 PM - Scott p: i'll be hiding behind the wizard, killing things.
Feb 2, 2011 8:17 PM - Scott p: i'm in then.
Feb 2, 2011 8:15 PM - John McCullough: Hi all. The game will be at Citi tomorrow night. And Scott, we've still got a slot open if you want to play.
Feb 2, 2011 6:54 PM - Scott p: are you still praying for a fifth? i could be talked into it, pretty easily.
Feb 2, 2011 4:03 PM - Brian Peters: personally, I HOPE it's at Citi. I prefer that venue
Feb 2, 2011 3:45 PM - Rob R: @ Capt_Dan - that's my assumption. John confirmed Thursday and since nothing else was said, I'm going by the location at the top of the page : )
Feb 2, 2011 3:35 PM - Capt_Dan: This is still at Citibank on the Thursdays?
Feb 2, 2011 2:39 PM - Ross H: No, did a "send email." Huh. I'll leave you a greeting with my email address.
Feb 2, 2011 2:37 PM - Brian Peters: Did you leave it as a greeting? I haven't seemed to receive anything.
Feb 2, 2011 10:41 AM - Rob R: Paging James L, Paging James L......... the days have switched to Thursday. Repeat Thursday. It no longer conflicts with your regular Tuesday night gaming. (Let's see if this works *fingers crossed for a fifth*)
Feb 2, 2011 10:31 AM - Ross H: Brian, messaged you on Meetup, btw - did that all sound reasonable to you as backstory?
Feb 2, 2011 9:21 AM - Brian Peters: Too bad we can't dig up a fifth player...
Feb 2, 2011 8:57 AM - Capt_Dan: ideal.
Feb 2, 2011 1:23 AM - Rob R: Hexblades are Cha based and Arcane (primarily) Melee Strikers.
Feb 1, 2011 9:19 PM - Capt_Dan: Unless anyone thinks I should change that... not sure how close that comes to a Hexblade, but it seems to round out the party better.
Feb 1, 2011 9:17 PM - Capt_Dan: Okay - Human/Wizard, Int 20, HIGH init, History/Religion/Arcana, Dungeon and Nature. - 'some' Dex.
Feb 1, 2011 9:15 PM - Capt_Dan: I think I'll run with the Human wizard, makes a better mix than the Paladin/Warlord - he's a good back up in a bigger party, I think.
Jan 31, 2011 1:57 AM - Brian Peters: I would also be willing to spell "necessary" correctly if necessary...
Jan 31, 2011 1:56 AM - Brian Peters: Note to any involved...I would be willing to switch if neccessary
Jan 31, 2011 1:43 AM - Brian Peters: Cool Ross... let's do it! Message me at the Meetup nyc site, and we can flesh out a backstory/ reason for a human cleric and his dwarven friend and loyal partner to travel together. Sounds like we could kinda be a D&D version of George and Lenny from Of Mice and Men... except without the rabbits!
Jan 31, 2011 12:00 AM - Ross H: I'm thinking a dwarf knight or fighter, although haven't figured out the details yet. Brian, I'm down for having my dwarf be a long-time companion of yours - he's not going to be an especially sharp sort of guy, would definitely benefit from some guidance from a wise friend.
Jan 30, 2011 11:52 PM - Brian Peters: Cool.. I'm in.... We have a pally, a hexblade, a dwarf defender anyone have a request role for me? I am open to anything... I was considering a human cleric (shielding) , perhaps assuming the role of spiritual mentor and older traveling companion in arms to Ross's dwarven defender as he mentioned ,giving some out of combat flavor
Jan 30, 2011 11:30 PM - Rob R: Ouch - I just read the blurb, if it's too close to the storyline, I can come up with another race or even class. Let me know John. I can always use this idea for my next LFR character (which is where I originally planned to use it).
Jan 30, 2011 11:27 PM - Rob R: Tiefling hexblade (speaks Elven) Skills - Intimidate, Streetwise, Bluff, & Stealth. Chr / Dex build. And, it turns out, Hexblades have a good melee and ranged basic attack.
Jan 30, 2011 10:49 PM - John McCullough: As you're planning the party, make sure you round out the party's roles and skill trainings
Jan 30, 2011 10:47 PM - John McCullough: Great, it looks like Thursday is a go. See you all soon.
Jan 30, 2011 6:51 PM - Capt_Dan: Okay, I am good for this. I can go with either a Paladin multied to a Warlord, or else a straight Wizard - either let me know which, or I can bring both...
Jan 30, 2011 11:45 AM - Rob R: Also I would be okay w/ covering a different role but for now my concept is a Tiefling who ran afoul of a Fey Court and is "forced" to have a Arch-Fey patron instead of the infernal one he was planning to follow. He would be true Neutral with very selfish, power-hungry motivations tempered by the fact he must do true good in the world to satisfy his new patron.
Jan 30, 2011 11:43 AM - Ross H: Thursday works fine for me!
Jan 30, 2011 11:42 AM - Rob R: So with it so close to the start date, can we confirm that everyone is good for this Thursday. I want to "lock-in" the date w/ my wife : )
Jan 30, 2011 10:39 AM - Rob R: I'm in for Thursdays for sure
Jan 28, 2011 1:02 PM - Rob R: Thursdays should work for me. I'll confirm shortly.
Jan 28, 2011 11:42 AM - Ross H: I was thinking it could be fun to build a defender who's a bit on the "slow" side, but fanatically loyal to someone else in the party - anyone want to have a dwarf for a pet?
Jan 27, 2011 12:19 AM - John McCullough: Alright, I've made some scheduling updates to the game. One of my other games was moved to conflict with the first two sessions, so now we will be meeting on Thursdays. Please check you calendars and change your status to committed if you can make it. If we get 4 committed players I will run the game, but I think it will be best with 5. I've run this mod before and I'm psyched to see what choices you all make different from the last group.
Jan 25, 2011 5:36 PM - KenB: I *am* still interested, but February is a bad month for me.

Also, I think this type of game is a lot more enticing for players who want consistent character building moments with the same adventurers... i.e. it gives more of a 'home game' feel. That's more enticing to me now than the one shot RPGA games.
Jan 25, 2011 5:42 AM - Brian Peters: I would imagine it is happening, we would just need more people to commit. 10 have shown interest, yet only two have signed on as commited. COME ON IN!, the water's warm!
Jan 24, 2011 11:51 PM - Volker Dietering: Is this game happening?
Jan 24, 2011 11:48 PM - Volker Dietering:
Jan 22, 2011 11:47 AM - Rob R: I to have flexibility - other than a regular wed night group, I can pretty much do any weeknight w/ a little notice. Can also do weekend mornings easy enough.
Jan 22, 2011 11:23 AM - Brian Peters: @ John and Miguel... I could play the last week on the Thursday as of right now, and would have no problem shifting for that week
Jan 22, 2011 11:19 AM - Brian Peters: Perhaps even John as DM could offer a couple of party scenarios, seeing as this is his game.
Jan 22, 2011 11:09 AM - Brian Peters: (cont. from below)Barbarian goliaths , who crave nothing but chaos on the battlefield.... Giving extra flavor to the gameplay, as well as having some shared interest and backstory to our adventuring party, as well as a REASON to be grouped together and acting as a team...
Jan 22, 2011 11:06 AM - Brian Peters: Maybe when we get a party together we can bounce some ideas around and take some sort of vote.... I just think it might be cool to run a party that has a common background and goals.... a band of Drow assassin thieves with a wizard and evil an priest in their ranks (evil ,manipulative band of cutthroat rogues) , a human order of knights and palidans traveling with their spiritual leader cleric ( an altruistic band of goodey-two shoes brothers), A havoc and glory through battle seeking group of
Jan 22, 2011 9:52 AM - Rob R: Brian - I'm pretty flexible. I don't mind letting everyone else choose what they wanna play and then I'll play whatever is still needed
Jan 22, 2011 8:09 AM - Brian Peters: Rob... what type character are you playing? I would prob prefer to play a striker... but would be open to any role ,even thoguh I have NEVER done heals, it might be a good switch. Or... we could also discsuss possibly building a more customised party.... like ALL chaotic evil drow, something that we couldn't do in LFR since a chaotic evil character may be limited in his evil doings if he sits with a couple of lawful good palladins or clerics...
Jan 21, 2011 11:08 PM - Rob R: Because when you can't find a regular group that stays together long enough to get your pc to level 3, the RPGA pick-up games are Golden. Also remember, we're spoiled in the big city, think about getting games together in smallish towns.
Jan 21, 2011 3:37 PM - James L: But in the RPGA I can just create a level 11 character now. I'm supposed to limit myself and start at level 1? If I'm self-limiting, then why do I need the RPGA?
Jan 21, 2011 10:40 AM - Rob R: I'm pretty flexible except for Wednesdays
Jan 21, 2011 12:52 AM - John McCullough: I also agree that growing a character is a huge draw for me as a player, and watching characters develop and change is a big draw for me as a DM.
Jan 21, 2011 12:51 AM - John McCullough: Alright, I've just had a schedule change - could people meet on Thursdays? We could skip a week for the third session or we could play Thursday and Saturday on one week.
Jan 20, 2011 12:07 PM - Rob R: That's a big part of it. But also the "living" aspect where you can *continue* growing the character. There's a lot of players that enjoy that. Though the living part has been so watered down.
Jan 20, 2011 10:57 AM - James L: Wow all those people playing RPGA and barely any want to try out a written mod. I guess this proves that the biggest draw is the character building. Making "builds" and testing the powers out. I guess that's what sells the most books for WotC also.
Jan 15, 2011 9:53 AM - James L: This adventure is really well talked about on the forums.
Jan 13, 2011 9:49 PM - Miguel Z: I will be out the full week, sorry. What are the odds that we can finish it in two sessions?
Jan 12, 2011 9:51 PM - John McCullough: @Miguel would Thursday the 17th work for you? How about the rest of the group, is the 17th okay for the last session? Could we switch it to all Thursdays?
Jan 12, 2011 1:59 PM - KenB: If i'm able to come, I'd play an essentials Hex-Blade
Jan 12, 2011 9:43 AM - Rob R: I'm open to any role
Jan 9, 2011 7:08 PM - James L: Unfortunately I already read most of this adventure.
