Sep 17, 2012 1:17 PM - Rob R: IF there is interest, let's schedule it. There is a keep full of reavers awaiting your assault. (you might actually catch them napping as they probably figure you guys moved on)
Sep 17, 2012 1:16 PM - Rob R: Funny. I was just doing some prepping for a game I ran this w/e and saw my prepared encounters for the last part of this game. I decided to hold onto the index cards for the bad guys but I think I decided to throw out the PC index cards.
Sep 17, 2012 12:47 PM - James L: We never finished this :( I want to know what happens
Jun 9, 2011 10:42 PM - Rob R: Sldo, I'm not averse to scheduling 2 weekday sessions. it jut seems that was very difficult. But gain, in the fall we might have more flexibility.
Jun 9, 2011 10:41 PM - Rob R: @ Brian, it appears we will wait for john to come back in a couple of months (which is fine by me). So let's see what your schedule looks like then.
Jun 9, 2011 1:27 PM - Brian Peters: Rob, I hate to be a bummer, but as my schedule looks, I will have Mondays and Tuesdays off, and will work evenings Wednesday through Sundays. My only times available to game now are going to be Mon. and Tues. eves., which are probably not ideal for everyone else.
Jun 9, 2011 1:19 PM - Brian Peters: I having trouble standing by idly as poor Thargus' soul sits in limbo... Had I only shot that horse as he made his last pass!
Jun 9, 2011 7:30 AM - Rob R: Yea, I know John is out of town for the summer. We had discussed it. I'm OK for waiting til John gets back, if that's what people want.
Jun 8, 2011 2:42 PM - James L: John is out of town for 8 weeks starting last week.
Jun 7, 2011 11:41 AM - Brian Peters: As it stands, I don't think I can make either...
Jun 7, 2011 10:46 AM - Ross H: Unfortunately, I don't think I can make either of those days. And I'm pretty sure John is out of town for the summer.
Jun 7, 2011 12:39 AM - Wade: MY vote would be for the 19th, with the extra space between rpga events, but I can do either no problem.
Jun 6, 2011 10:23 PM - Rob R: To clarify - it would only be one or the other. There would be a strategizing portion to figure out how to engage the remaining Iron Cirle band and then the actual combat encounters.
Jun 6, 2011 10:16 PM - Rob R: OK - due to difficulty of scheduleing this for two weekdays - I want to schedule the last session on a weekday. I have the following two Sundays off - June the 12th and the 19th. Let's see if either work.
May 23, 2011 2:41 PM - Wade: Weeknights are tough for me, but as I mentioned before, y'all can start without me and I can come in late, needs be. My new schedule probably leaves me available after 8pm, at the earliest.
May 23, 2011 1:47 PM - James L: I'm pretty flexible. I can usually do Thurs except this week's the 26th.
May 23, 2011 12:08 PM - Brian Peters: i could do those thursdays mentioned
May 23, 2011 9:53 AM - Rob R: I sent everyone an e-mail a couple days ago - please look into it. So far I have a response for Thursday the 26th (good for 1 out of 2), Thursday June 9th (good for 1 out of 2). I will not be around June 2nd thru June 5th.
May 5, 2011 11:28 AM - Brian Peters: and the world still turns as poor Thargus's soul sits in limbo...
Apr 26, 2011 1:43 PM - Rob R: Within the next couple of days, after I look over my schedule, I will attempt to reschedule. If no day works for all five, I will pick a day that works for four.
Apr 26, 2011 1:42 PM - Rob R: I have not forgotten this, I swear. I would really like to finish this for everyone. After seeing that there were no days in April that coincided for everyone, I am resigned to the fact that I will only be able to run the last part for 4 out of 5.
Apr 20, 2011 11:52 PM - Brian Peters: Have we come to a time yet?
Apr 12, 2011 12:33 PM - Ross H: The last week of April works well for me. I think I put this on the Doodle, but my only hard conflict is on Tuesday night.
Apr 12, 2011 12:30 PM - Rob R: So it looks like we have a real good possibility to get together and finish this the last week of April. Brian can you go to the website I e-mailed you and fill out the survey. Also, James can you also fill out the survey for the last week of April.
Apr 10, 2011 12:19 PM - Rob R: BTW - tomorrow, I'll review our schedules to see where we can overlap for the assault on the Iron Circle's Keep. I know Ross and John were unavailable for the first 2 weeks. I'll take a look and see what's best.
Apr 10, 2011 12:17 PM - Rob R: Not sure where these no shows popped up from - maybe they're carried over as your total no-shows? Though I doubt we've all earned no-shows. I'll just wait til James chimes in
Apr 10, 2011 2:36 AM - Brian Peters: hmmm... weird... after my recent "blonde moment" of missing your last game, am I going down to -2?
Apr 9, 2011 7:55 PM - John McCullough: Why to we all have a no-show vote?
Apr 5, 2011 7:28 AM - John McCullough: My next couple of weeks are pretty packed, as I indicated on the doodle survey. If you folks find a time that works for everybody else, feel free to set it up without me. I don't want to delay the conclusion for 3+ weeks.
Apr 4, 2011 1:24 PM - Wade: Yeah, weekday nights are harder for me than weekends, but maybe possible; my schedule is changing again, so I should be ready by 7pm during the week. I'm trying to plan a trip for the weekend of the 17, so ideally I'd like to finish before then.
Apr 4, 2011 1:15 PM - Brian Peters: i am dming this Sat 4-9 at LFR, Sun 4-10 is good, or next weekend both days. I think Wade is only good for weekends or after 7:30 pm weekdays.
Apr 3, 2011 10:31 PM - James L: In terms of scheduling I think it's easier if everyone just puts what times they can't make in those boxes up there. I can't make Tuesdays, but the next few weekends are all free for me.
Mar 29, 2011 10:49 AM - Brian Peters: Rob R: then they can get to the creamy filling of the party - the human, almost dead elf and pesky tree that has the nerve to use a long bow (shaking my head)

That 'pesky tree' has a NAME< you know! How speciesist! Give a guy some bark and needles, and it's like he doesn't deserve a name! As far as the long bow, I'll have you know I crafted it myself, using fine wood left to me by my great uncle Birch... Literally. he died in a freak dwarven woodchipper accident, and this is all that was left
Mar 29, 2011 10:43 AM - Brian Peters: Ross H: Well, on my end, I'm pretty aware that jumping out of a pit and charging a wizard that explodes when he gets hit when I only have 1 hit point and no surges left is a strategy that really kind of deserves dying. But to be fair - he provoked me.

Yes, but that was a dramatic way to go! Besides, at that point, he had little to lose, and going down with a fight was definitely the way to go... That was our fault for pulling him in there with you... :( (ooops?)
Mar 29, 2011 9:30 AM - Rob R: As far as the next session, I will use a scheduling website and send out the link to everyone. John / Ross, can you give me that website address again?
Mar 29, 2011 9:29 AM - Rob R: Red Thorn had to flee the field of battle as his forces were routed. As he rode off and the last arrow missed his horse, he was seen to visibly slump in his saddle - spent from the confrontation with the heroes.
Mar 29, 2011 9:27 AM - Rob R: The Druid, Raithein, was honored to call back such a powerful warrior who was such a force for good. She is certain that Thargus has a good heart and just hides it behind his mercenary facade.
Mar 28, 2011 10:28 PM - James L: Did Red Thorn Fall? Does Thargus have to stay dead or did he get raised? Would a Lawful Good Cavalier be able to join the party? Stay tuned for the next episode... by the way, when is that?
Mar 28, 2011 5:17 PM - John McCullough: Just checked my schedule... Won't be able to make the Thursday night game on 4/7.
Mar 28, 2011 4:47 PM - Ross H: Well, on my end, I'm pretty aware that jumping out of a pit and charging a wizard that explodes when he gets hit when I only have 1 hit point and no surges left is a strategy that really kind of deserves dying. But to be fair - he provoked me.
Mar 28, 2011 4:44 PM - James L: How come we keep dying? Are we doing something wrong?
Mar 28, 2011 2:13 PM - Rob R: then they can get to the creamy filling of the party - the human, almost dead elf and pesky tree that has the nerve to use a long bow (shaking my head)
Mar 28, 2011 2:12 PM - Rob R: hmmm, wonder where I got my original ruling from. It might have been an interim errata or just plain misremembering but that's good to know (now to adjust my minions to have slowing powers for the hard-hitting shifter and lock-down half-orc)
Mar 28, 2011 1:27 PM - Ross H: Ah, fair enough. I mis-guessed what the wording would be.
Mar 28, 2011 1:25 PM - James L: it says "when charging you get a +2 bonus to speed" that sounds like exactly the bonus that would get disqualified.
Mar 28, 2011 12:38 PM - Ross H: Actually, I'd read that as ALLOWING the charge plus two - that's not a bonus to speed, it's an action (like run) that "allow [you] to move farther than [your] speed." Or not?
Mar 28, 2011 12:35 PM - James L: That's pretty clear, the target cannot benefit from bonuses to its speed. Thargus can't charge speed+2 if he is slowed.
Mar 28, 2011 12:34 PM - Ross H: Yeah, I actually looked that up (on slowed) last night as well. Makes sense, really...
Mar 28, 2011 12:33 PM - James L: Slowed
When a creature is slowed, its speed becomes 2 if it was higher than that. This speed applies to all of the creature’s movement modes (walking, flying, and so on), but it does not apply to forced movement against it, teleportation, or any other movement that doesn’t use the creature’s speed. The creature also cannot benefit from bonuses to speed, although it can take actions, such as the run action, that allow it to move farther than its speed.

Mar 28, 2011 11:20 AM - James L: And then... while at his weakest, he was trampled to death by a horse. What a way to go!
Mar 28, 2011 11:19 AM - James L: Lesser troops trembled in his presence, even hiding behind buildings, just at the sight of him. Then... near the end of the day of battle. Red Thorn and Thargus met... They exchanged words, and in a earth-shaking clash they met, axe swinging, metal ringing. Thargus was momentarily knocked down by a conniving Devil.
Mar 28, 2011 11:17 AM - James L: Word of his prowess even travelled to the enemy encampments. Witnesses of how he cleaved the enemy sergeant in two with a tremendous charge, said it was awesome. Thargus the Destroyer...
Mar 28, 2011 11:16 AM - James L: The saga of Thargus: Year 134YK after Elf-Return. Thargus the destroyer did a good job rallying the troops in the epic battle against the forces of the Iron Circle. He went platoon to platoon, instilling the rabble with courage.
Mar 27, 2011 9:01 PM - John McCullough: Yeah, you put up a real good fight today. Let's hope we haven't bitten of more than we can chew when we storm the castle.
Mar 26, 2011 4:09 PM - Rob R: As fas as another session, I received e-mails from four of the five. Based on the responses so far the weekend is looking more likely. We'll discuss further. In addition, in rereading the final chapter - it's much more open-ended than I thought. Yah for no railroading, linear adventure but booo for trying to estimate how long it'll take and more prepping
Mar 26, 2011 4:04 PM - Rob R: I look foward to continuing the good fight tomorrow also. I will look for my revenge. My bad guys will not be dismissed so easily on this day.
Mar 26, 2011 8:45 AM - John McCullough: See everyone tomorrow. I can't wait to kick some Iron Circle ass.
Mar 22, 2011 9:52 AM - Rob R: dayte_lg@yahoo.com
Mar 22, 2011 9:52 AM - Rob R: @ everyone, I will be away the following weekend. Can people email me their availabilty for the 2 weeks following this coming Sunday (including the weekdays / weekends). I'll compile the dates and see what works.
Mar 22, 2011 9:51 AM - Rob R: @ James, I just noticed your note about the 27th (under the interested list). Is that still accurate?
Mar 22, 2011 9:49 AM - Rob R: Ah, Thargus, I love rash pcs. They are usually Barbarians but that's easy roleplaying. Now playing a rash Warlord or better yet a Wand Wizard who likes to charge ahead of the party... now that takes some chops.
Mar 21, 2011 4:49 PM - Brian Peters: Wow!... I REALLY hope there is time for a SHORT rest...*gulp!*
Mar 21, 2011 12:22 PM - John McCullough: James, no need to apologize. Thargus was operating within his normal parameters.
Mar 21, 2011 9:46 AM - James L: The difficulty of that second Bullywug encounter was mostly Thargus' fault. In his younger days (level 2) he was overconfident and had not yet learned the value of wariness. Sorry
Mar 20, 2011 1:25 PM - John McCullough: The patrol felt tough, but I thought the second bullywug fight was tougher than the third. Probably because we skipped the short rest.
Mar 19, 2011 9:26 PM - Rob R: Finally, please hold onto your pc sheets as you are in between encounters and there will not be an extended rest (for reasons you will find out).
Mar 19, 2011 9:25 PM - Rob R: Also - the encounter level breakdowns - EL 1 (1) EL 2 (4) and EL 3 (2). The EL 3s were the final bullywug fight with the frogs and the Iron Circle patrol which located you.
Mar 19, 2011 9:23 PM - Rob R: Well you all earned a total of 5,252 (including minor quest xp for taking out the supply wagon, defeating the bullywug chieftain and getting the halfling home). So that's 1,050 xp each.
Mar 19, 2011 9:04 PM - Brian Peters: Well guys, I WOOD have to say that it was a great time, and I am PINING for next week....
Mar 18, 2011 9:48 PM - John McCullough: Denrik Oakheart is a wandering mage. He is of average height and build, and has the kind of face that you can't describe unless you're looking at him. People run into him in the street, and he has a hard time getting the barkeeper's attention when he wants a drink.
Mar 18, 2011 7:40 PM - Brian Peters: No James, i am fine with the striker/damge role... I prefer it, and play it often... I will make my tree a pissed-off, local denizen of the woods who feels his solitude is jeopardized by the recent 'activities' in the area, and will (reluctantly) join forces with a group willing to help him end it...
Mar 18, 2011 6:35 PM - James L: Brian, if you want to play a defender, I'll switch to striker. I rarely play strikers. Just let me know
Mar 18, 2011 6:12 PM - Brian Peters: Actually, I am considering, based on james' comment of switching my Wilden to a striker... (DASH! I ALWAYS play strikers!...:( ) It will fill the party better, and I will give him a better "fit" into the group as well as a thought out backstory...
Mar 18, 2011 2:51 PM - Rob R: Yeah, I love that feat. My Orc Barbarin has it. But with the randomness of LFR parties it doesn't get enough use (other than one encounter/day off a daily rage that has 1/round prone attack).
Mar 18, 2011 1:11 PM - James L: Do any of the controllers knock people prone a lot? Because "Headsman's Chop" has just recently become one of my favorite feats.
Mar 18, 2011 1:05 PM - Rob R: Let me glance over the mod again, archers (check), torches (check) arrows dipped in said torches (rubbing my hands maniacally) j/k.... maybe
Mar 18, 2011 1:03 PM - Ross H: Twig has been kicking around these woods for years, mostly keeping to himself, but occasionally taking on a job to help the townsfolk deal with things with the local wildlife gets... strange. And dangerous.
Mar 18, 2011 12:43 PM - Wade: Long ago he gave his life to the ground to save the cynoeswr tree, but after hundreds of years buried beneath its roots Maerwon Tarddell awoke surprised to find himself drained of life, instead of the decomposed oblivion he expected.
Mar 18, 2011 12:33 PM - Brian Peters: I guess my Wilden better 'bough" in....He saw the group was to humanoid, and thought you should 'branch' out and get more diversity... Don't worry, I won't "bark' orders, and will never 'leaf' this group high and dry.... I'll be sure to 'stick' things out, and get to the 'root' of the problems at hand... *ducks for cover and apologizes for all the arboral puns*
Mar 18, 2011 12:12 PM - James L: The banned list is quite short and very reasonable.
Mar 18, 2011 12:10 PM - James L: Thargus the Destroyer, half-orc mercenary knight, dresses in Black and Red Full Plate Armor, and usually keeps his head covered in a black metal helmet. He looks mostly human, but with greyish skin and sharp lower teeth that protrude from his mouth, giving away his orcish heritage.
Mar 18, 2011 11:38 AM - Rob R: The human and hairier human are easy. Half-Orc can expect a little of the womanfolk shoosing their kids indoors.
Mar 18, 2011 11:38 AM - Rob R: Would be nice to know why there is a tree walking around with the party too : )
Mar 18, 2011 11:36 AM - Rob R: As long as their not on James' banned list, then sure. I hope everyone has a little character background that kinda explains any really odd choices - looking at you dead guy : )
Mar 18, 2011 9:55 AM - John McCullough: I'll be there. Quick question: are skill powers allowed?
Mar 18, 2011 9:52 AM - Ross H: Ready for some reaving. Or, possibly, to be reaved. 11am @ CitiCenter tomorrow, I'll be there.
Mar 18, 2011 9:34 AM - Rob R: Can I get a rollcall on this? Just want to make sure no one has forgotten.
Mar 16, 2011 2:57 PM - James L: You know there's two controllers right now? Hunter is controller.
Mar 15, 2011 5:31 PM - James L: If anyone else in the list of awaiting people wants to play badly and knows they have the time, just say so and I'll bow out.
Mar 15, 2011 4:41 PM - James L: Man, I want to play this because I haven't read it. My wife might have made plans for us on the 27th, but she also might have to go out of town for work. I'll commit, but I might have to uncommit. I should know by tomorrow either way.
Mar 15, 2011 11:49 AM - Scott p: i think i'm going to have to bow out, this weekend isn't looking good and i thought it better to pull out sooner than later.
sorry guys.
Mar 11, 2011 2:16 PM - Brian Peters: I don't see any dwarves.... OH! down THERE!
Mar 11, 2011 9:58 AM - Ross H: Yeah, quite the change from my last game - dwarves, dwarves, as far as the eye can see!
Mar 11, 2011 9:56 AM - Brian Peters: we have a wilden, a dead elf, a half orc, a human, and a shifter... This is one MOTLEY crew... this could get interesting...
Mar 8, 2011 10:56 AM - Rob R: Uggh, how did I miss that box. I knew it would be something obvious. Thanks.
Mar 8, 2011 10:37 AM - James L: Rob to edit the first session in the grey box, at the top of the page click "Edit the Details"
Mar 7, 2011 10:34 PM - Rob R: Heads up - race might (will?) matter. If you play a "monstrous" race there might be charisma skill penalties or it might be harder to get someone to help you (same as if you played an Elf and interacted w/ elves their might be a bonus). There wouldn't be outright fails just because of your race though.
Mar 7, 2011 10:32 PM - Rob R: How do I remove (or change) the "first session' info that is in the Grey box right under the picture?
Mar 7, 2011 12:54 PM - James L: Reavers! Why did it have to be Reavers?
Mar 7, 2011 12:33 PM - Brian Peters: Reavers/reaved, to-may-to/to-mah-to... Just make sure these things drop plenty of loot after we gank their scrawny butts! ;)
Mar 7, 2011 12:10 PM - Rob R: Well that would depend - you are definitely not the Reavers but it's possible you will get reaved....
Mar 7, 2011 12:04 PM - Ross H: Count me in, then! So... are we the reavers or the reaved?
Mar 7, 2011 10:18 AM - Brian Peters: Sounds good, and since we start early, I would be willing and able to play two loooong sessions, so we could have ample time without rushing... Plenty of time for corpse management!
Mar 7, 2011 12:36 AM - Rob R: I'm thinking that the 2 weekend sessions should be long enough. I'll institute a 24-second clock if needed : )
Mar 6, 2011 9:45 PM - Ross H: @Rob so what dates are you expecting for the whole run? 19th & 27th are good for me, but I've got some travel that might be a problem depending on when you're scheduling the rest of the sessions. But would love to get in on this if the timing works!
Mar 6, 2011 8:48 PM - Rob R: I am unavailable the following week. So it would have to be Sat the 19th to start. I know it's short notice but let's see if there's enough interest with those two dates.
Mar 6, 2011 8:48 PM - Rob R: How do people feel about Sundays? I'm thinking Sunday the 27th.
Mar 3, 2011 9:50 AM - Rob R: Thanks James, I thought they might already be banned but I couldn't find the list to check quicker than i could type it out : ) But I didn't remember they were paragon feats. WoTC's talk about going away from tier prereqs has me thinking everything is not tiered as a baseline assumption.
Mar 2, 2011 9:45 AM - James L: Rob, those feats are paragon, and already banned according to our houserules. http://rpgconnect.org/popup_instruct_SE.html
Mar 2, 2011 12:24 AM - Rob R: I'm going to shoot for late march / early april for this. Will finalize shortly.
Mar 2, 2011 12:24 AM - Rob R: This will not be limited to races from essentials. Only classes but I will ask that noone take any feats that allow you to target reflex instead of AC on a basic attack as that feat was created at a time that did not include Essential Classes.
Mar 1, 2011 6:22 PM - Brian Peters: Rob... is this limited to the classes in essentials, but we can use any forgotten realms races, or should we only use the Mcreate a quick essentials character" option on the character builder?
Feb 25, 2011 4:45 PM - Brian Peters: Two long, mini-marathon sessions could be good... I enjoyed our all day session this past Sat, and having plenty of time without feeling we'll ever have to rush should be fun
Feb 25, 2011 4:05 PM - Miguel Z: 2 sessions of 8 to 10 hours should work, one per book. Essentials characters are usually faster to play.
I am preparing the adventure to run over MapTools, but if the dates works for me I would love to join it as a player.
Feb 25, 2011 3:44 PM - John McCullough: I really like the long Saturday sessions.
Feb 25, 2011 1:14 PM - KenB: Saturdays work well for me.
Feb 25, 2011 1:06 PM - Ross H: That'd work well for me (with the date caveats I've listed)!
Feb 25, 2011 1:03 PM - Rob R: So right now I'm thinking it might be best to do this on 2 Saturdays on the weekend (with one Saturday off between). Figure 8 to 10 hours each? Would this work for people. Any other suggestions.
Feb 21, 2011 4:26 PM - Rob R: As far as DMing parts, if I read any part of it - I rather DM the whole thing rather than play part. I don't mind running the whole thing and would rather do it than only run half.
Feb 21, 2011 4:24 PM - Rob R: I'm read 90% of this weekend. It's looking like 5 to 6 4 hour sessions. Of course depending on the party. There isn't really any extraneous combats that can be cut (and I rather wouldn't - if anything I see opportunity to add).
Feb 21, 2011 3:33 PM - James L: Rob, how long is the adventure? Should I break it into two? Two different DMs could run each part.
Feb 18, 2011 5:48 PM - Rob R: Ok - seeing as there seems to be enough interest in playing this with essential style pcs, I'm going to start reading the mod this weekend. I will check my schedule - probably will schedule for late March or Early April.
Feb 8, 2011 12:18 PM - James L: testing, sorry for the spam
Feb 7, 2011 12:29 PM - Graham: sounds like fun
Feb 7, 2011 10:04 AM - KenB: I'm interested. I'm thinking Hexblade, Cavaleir, or Scout; though I'm also open to simply playing a class that fills a missing role.
Feb 7, 2011 1:27 AM - Rob R: Never mind the date and time for now. I'm just looking to gauge interest in this adventure with all essential style classes
Feb 6, 2011 11:28 PM - Brian Peters: Rob.... could it be a LITTLE later than 10 am? Noon? I am interested, but after 20 years of working evenings, am not a morning person...
Feb 5, 2011 10:48 AM - Rob R: The date is just a placeholder for now. Testing to see if there is interest. I'm looking to run this for only Essential style PCs. Would like to see how essential pcs stack up against the new monster designs - for both balance and enjoyment.
