Keep on the Shadowfell
Cost: $0.00
Level: 1

First Session: Saturday -- September 10th, 2011 -- 10:30 AM
[Eastern Time]

Approx. Length: 10-12 sessions

Keep on the Shadowfell. The first module released for 4E, it is a fun time. It is estimated to be 10-12 sessions, or around three months of 1/week games.

The town of Winterhaven stands watch over a ruined keep that was once a bastion of good in the realm. This keep overlooks the Shadow Rift, a dark scar in the world that was once a gateway to the Shadowfell but has been dormant for many years. Now, an evil cleric of Orcus, Demon Lord of the Undead, seeks to re-open the gate, and the only thing standing in his way is a small yet determined band of heroes from Winterhaven.

Sep 12, 2011 4:00 PM - Capt_Dan: Everyone, thanks for turning out, I had a really good time. I will continue with any party admin on the next posted part of the game. Lucky 13 - you were missed, not sure what happened, but if you want in for next week, please come along - though if you can't make it, please take yourself off the list of active participants.
Sep 10, 2011 10:30 AM - Jarrid R: I am having a lot of trouble finding this place
Sep 10, 2011 9:07 AM - Capt_Dan: Not a problem. thanks for posting
Sep 10, 2011 8:45 AM - Rob R: I might be 15 min. late. Depends on traffic. Have to leave a little later than I planned.
Sep 10, 2011 6:17 AM - Capt_Dan: It is at Citicentre, on 53rd and 3rd. From 1030 until we get tired.
Sep 10, 2011 6:15 AM - Capt_Dan: Figures for some, miniature american flags for others...
Sep 9, 2011 8:41 PM - Lucky13: I will need a figurine.
Sep 9, 2011 7:18 PM - havarthe: I could use a figurine as well. Also, what is the location?
Sep 9, 2011 1:52 PM - Vlad: I could use a figurine. I haven't had a chance to acquire any D&D gaming paraphernalia yet.
Sep 9, 2011 10:26 AM - Jarrid R: I do, I just ordered mine a few days ago and it hasn't arrived yet.
Sep 9, 2011 9:53 AM - Capt_Dan: Finally, does anyone need a figure at all? I have far too many...
Sep 9, 2011 9:52 AM - Capt_Dan: Okay, great guys. I think I know what you're all, roughly doing out here now! I will give a few of you a specific note tomorrow, otherwise, you can take it that you are either headed or drifting in the same direction and have either taken to travelling together - except Kai, who you have met at the exact moment the adventure begins...
Sep 9, 2011 9:36 AM - Rob R: @ Vlad. Psions are not hybrids. Hybrids are the mashing of two classes, such as psion / wizard or ranger / sorcerer, using the official "hybrid" rules released (I think) in PHB3 (and of course updated subsequently)
Sep 9, 2011 7:03 AM - Vlad: Sorry for the last minute class change - I re-read house rules, and I see that Psions aren't allowed (as hybrid classes).

Fortunately, Kai - my drow druid - is multi-talented.

Kai always preferred exploring distant caves in the Underdark to the hustle and bustle of big cities. He devoted his life to studying natural and unnatural creatures of the deep below - driders, beholders, and other denizens of the cavernous Underdark. His studies and explorations eventually led him to the outside w
Sep 9, 2011 1:14 AM - havarthe: and Tracy - I never knew playing dungeons and dragons would permit me multiple wives, but if so, I'll gladly convert.
Sep 9, 2011 1:12 AM - havarthe: Adam is alternatively reserved and unassuming, and wildly pretentious. He explains that he is after gold and glory, but he may be harboring a more sinister purpose.
His pet raven "Fluffy" rarely leaves his side.
Sep 8, 2011 11:46 PM - Rob R: He become a fierce warrior who decided if he couldn't get Kord to help him heal his allies he would do all he can to keep them safe. To be the immovable boulder to stop the enemies' advances.
Sep 8, 2011 11:44 PM - Rob R: Valk Thunderson is an orphaned Goliath who grew up as a ward of the local Temple to Kord. He was not wise enough to be a cleric and never found his prayers answered in combat.
Sep 8, 2011 7:58 PM - Tracy: Tink is a wandering collector of anything and everything. Bits of string, a pebble here, a twig there, with plenty of storage space, but not enough to store, Tink has been gathering odds and ends for her collection for the past 500 years. Nothing is too little and everything doesn't exist to Tink. This bag lady spends her time creating some crazy contraptions that at their best mostly work even.
Sep 8, 2011 1:41 PM - Jarrid R: My gnome's name is Black Dog (clearly not his real name). Loves life, loves women, and loves money. An avid stundent of change and adaptation, he can do both at any given time. He is a gentleman and a thief. He is unaligned.
Sep 8, 2011 2:52 AM - Lucky13: mmk... My PC(Ignis Fati) likes long walks in the park, sniffing pretty flowers, and killing undead. He doesn't like the labels of good or bad, so he is unaligned.

Lol He is a pursuing avenger, and tends to do a fair amount of damage. Sneaky bugger, and a follower of Kelemvor(or Raven Queen)
Sep 7, 2011 6:45 PM - Capt_Dan: Okay, First, if anyone wanted to be a Revenant, I would be quite happy with that, particularly with this mix. Second, I'd be grateful if you could all stick up a little bit about your character - alignment, concept etc. Only short, but I want to see why you are all on the road together...
Sep 7, 2011 9:26 AM - Rob R: The Blackguard is interesting because it's a striker in plate and can have a relatively high ac. But, it has no marking ability. I'll look further into the class.
Sep 7, 2011 9:24 AM - Rob R: Heads up. I came down with the flu. I *should* be better by Saturday. But one never knows.
Sep 6, 2011 4:43 PM - Capt_Dan: Rob, the way this party looks, how about a blackguard?
Sep 6, 2011 1:06 PM - Tracy: @havarthe - I'm happy to play with people that aren't experienced. The way I try to convert people to DnD you'd think I was a Mormon.
Sep 6, 2011 10:06 AM - Rob R: I don't mind playing a defender. I was just waiting to see what role wasn't covered. I am having a problem creating a divine defender as I don't want to play another Paladin and am underwhelmed by the Cavaliar. I'll need to keep working on it.
Sep 6, 2011 12:50 AM - Lucky13: (I personally love using my Avenger, but I didn't want to change class at the last minute without an ok from the group and DM)
Sep 6, 2011 12:38 AM - Lucky13: If you guys want, I can take my Drow Avenger who has been quite successful in the past.
Sep 5, 2011 11:04 PM - Tracy: Rob if you want I can switch to defender and you can be a leader since you are playing a defender in Ashenport. I have another option in mind and I don't want you to feel trapped into playing that role if you prefer something else. :)
Sep 5, 2011 10:28 PM - Rob R: So it looks like I'll play a defender of some sort.
Sep 5, 2011 9:50 PM - Capt_Dan: No problem at all with a Warlock. There's an Eclectic mix, with a decidedly 'Dark' bent, but all roles are covered. I am quite looking forward to seeing why all these shadowy individuals are working together... and what Rob has lined up!
Sep 5, 2011 9:21 PM - havarthe: I could have a Warlock prepared... unless group dynamics would suggest me another character type.
Sep 5, 2011 9:20 PM - havarthe: I could have a level 1 warlock prepared for the day, though it might require a quick glance to see ensure that I've set it up properly. Thanks! H
Sep 5, 2011 9:11 PM - Capt_Dan: Havarthe, that's no problem for me, this is a good place to start. How are you set for a character?
Sep 5, 2011 9:09 PM - havarthe: Hello all.
I am familiar with second edition, less familiar with fourth edition, having only placed once before. is that an issue for you guys?
Sep 5, 2011 8:31 AM - Capt_Dan: Apologies, that should have been on there. I was going for Citi centre on the Saturday, and we can decide if we want to change the Tues session while we are there.
Sep 4, 2011 9:00 PM - Vlad: I am still up for it, depending on where its held
Sep 4, 2011 4:32 PM - Rob R: Can Havarthe, Lucky 13 & Vlad give a shout out so that I know your still on board. Not sure who has committed recently and who committed 2 months ago and has forgotten.
Sep 4, 2011 3:46 PM - Jarrid R: Hey, question. I understand that this is happening next week, but where?
Aug 28, 2011 6:40 PM - Capt_Dan: Good question; the way I see it, if the same people play all three 'sets' then it would work well to keep the same characters. I'm not going to insist on too much, if people come in for the second, but miss the first and third, I'll just work it in. If people really WANT to change characters between 'sets', and are playing the lot, then I suppose they can, but I'd advise not too.
Aug 28, 2011 6:28 PM - Tracy: Being a 3 part adventure I was curious, do we recreate our character for every level, if we want to play all 3, or do we continue with our current level and items we receive from the 1st adventure on?
Aug 28, 2011 6:25 PM - Jarrid R: Great! I hope I get in.
Aug 28, 2011 4:56 PM - Capt_Dan: Yes it is. Nice to see a broad range of proposed adventurers...
Aug 28, 2011 12:29 PM - Jarrid R: This event is still happening right?
Jul 29, 2011 1:51 PM - Capt_Dan: Yes it is... but nice commitment.
Jul 23, 2011 7:55 PM - Mat T: Shannon: I think it's pretty safe to say that this is an in-person NYC game.
Jul 23, 2011 7:09 PM - Shannon : Or is this a RL session, not online?
Jul 23, 2011 7:04 PM - Shannon : Is it possible to change the time? The Saturday is a little early in my timezone and I have class on Tuesday. If not, I'll set an alarm or something. It's not a huge deal, just a preference.
Jul 22, 2011 3:43 PM - Brian Peters: Good going, Cap'n!
Jul 21, 2011 4:26 PM - James L: Congrats Captain Dan!
Jul 19, 2011 3:38 PM - Capt_Dan: This is still very much on the cards - just got accepted into NYU for a Masters course, so no more cutting out of the city!
Jul 18, 2011 11:46 PM - Ross H: Hey, just wondering if you're still thinking of running this in the fall? I hope so!
May 16, 2011 3:30 PM - Brian Peters: Leave it up, and confirm a week or two ahead is fine... I guess we can consider this a "place " holder" for now... I'm not sure of my schedule that far out, but do hope I can join in for this. Whatever is keeping you out of the states, hope all is well, Cap'n!
May 16, 2011 2:14 PM - Capt_Dan: sadly, A work thing has come up that will keep me out of the US until late August/September. I am still very keen to run this, and will change the dates for now, unless people think it would be better to cancel and repost nearer the time?
May 15, 2011 3:18 PM - Brian Peters: 4th might be bad for me as well... Thr LFR monthly @ Strat is on this date, and I really like to go to those.
May 15, 2011 1:17 AM - Tommy T: Bleh...no way I can do the 4th. Oh well.
May 9, 2011 5:22 PM - James L: I'll just say running the entire thing is a HUGE commitment. It is very long. Just part 1 takes 3 full 5 hour sessions.
May 7, 2011 8:42 PM - Capt_Dan: I stuck up the other two parts, I think I can run the whole thing. This part should only take one good Saturday session, with the possibility of a weekday session to complete. The others can be started on a saturday and then one or two others to finish. I think the whole thing is 'about' 30 hours, depending onthe party.
May 6, 2011 2:56 PM - Graham: sweet
May 5, 2011 2:12 PM - Capt_Dan: I want to build up a little DM'ing experience, this seemed like a good place to start. I intend to run this all on the Saturday; if necessary, it can be finished in a second evening session soon after. I also intend to run the other two parts, in a similar fashion. Any other thoughts, let me know.
