Dark Sun - Beneath the Dust
Cost: $0.00
Level: 8

First Session: Thursday -- August 4th, 2011 -- 7:30 PM
[Eastern Time]

Approx. Length: 2-3 sessions

Description:
2-3 Session length Dark Sun tale that has interesting back-story involving Defilers and Sorcerer Kings. It will seem short, unless the DM expands it by an encounter or two.

There in the dark, something remarkable occurred. In the lightless, stale, barren cave, nurtured by the primal spirits and its own tenacious power to survive, the seed of life slowly took root. Forging its own nutrients from the stone, drawing sustenance from traces of water, it grew into a mighty tree. More life spread from it; moss grew on the walls, vines snaked through rusted weapons and armor, and the air became fresh.

Characters seek a primordial tree of life, a prize of inestimable value to both preservers and defilers. It lies somewhere in the barren desert, under all the protection that the primal spirits can muster for it. Those seeking it will face monsters of the desert, undead guardians, thri-kreen raiders, and a ghostly protector on their path to the tree. And they're not alone; with stakes as high as these, there's bound to be more than one player in the game.

Aug 18, 2011 10:02 PM - Tommy T: Great times, guys. Best of luck, Gary!!
Aug 18, 2011 3:11 PM - Kenny P: Whiskey Jack was the salt of the earth, and so are you Gary. ;) Hope you have great adventures in England!

Awesome game Chris, as always.
Aug 18, 2011 1:06 PM - Jensen: If you noticed, with a tie both get the points. Which I think RP wise is pretty badass. Long live Whisky Jack and the devious Solasandra. Oh what will happen with the seed & the ever changing voice of Lukan, the evil entity inside Asterion, The nomad bluffing sensation of Bal, & oh that adorable jumping hacking skittles skittles
Aug 18, 2011 12:39 PM - Tracy: I say as much as we love Gary, vote for Kenny since the points won't be doing Gary any good now. :) Seriously though, we'll miss you Gary (aka Jack). Last night I played my favorite encounter to date! It was made fun due to everyone's team work and individuality. Thank you everyone!
Aug 18, 2011 11:24 AM - Graham: we need a tie breaker for RP points! RP off lol
Aug 18, 2011 11:22 AM - Graham: so much fun! thanks for the laughs and the killing of monsters.
Aug 18, 2011 10:20 AM - Ross H: Seriously, what a great game. Thanks to everyone for a great time and for tolerating Lukan's constantly changing accent!
Aug 18, 2011 10:17 AM - Gary: Hey all - just a quick one to say what awesome fun I had for my last U.S. campaign and thank you all, especially Chris, for making it so memorable. Till we meet in the next tight spot ;-) - Whisky Jack!
Aug 18, 2011 10:05 AM - Jensen: I just wanted to say this Campaign was one of the greatest Dnd experiences I have been a part of in a long time. dark sun is one of my favorite campaign settings and it lived up to everything I loved about it in 2.0. Epic Encounters where every single one just were so much fun to be a part of. They were all so spur of the moment and life held at the balance of the 6 of you all at every moment.Thank you for making Gary's last american game amazing. WHISKY!!
Aug 17, 2011 11:50 AM - Jensen: REMINDER!!!!! Tonight 7:30 same place as last game. see you all there
Aug 15, 2011 2:51 PM - Kenny P: Here's a quick recap for those who missed the game.

We entered the portal we discovered in the ruins. In what appeared to be the atrium, we were stopped by spectral guardians. After dispatching them, we followed the vines to an underground garden. There, we came across a clutch of thri-kreen who were after the seed of life. We talked them into allying with us and then proceeded to the chamber with the tree of life. There, we fought a harrowing battle with more undead guardians. It was brutal.
Aug 10, 2011 7:13 PM - Tommy T: Due to a colossal screw up I won't be able to make it tonight. Sorry guys. I really messed up and forgot it was Wednesday.
Aug 10, 2011 6:38 PM - Tracy: I won't be able to pick dinner up for everyone tonight, I'm just getting done with a meeting and I won't have time to stop by the store before it closes to grab the munchies. My apologies, see you at 7:15!
Aug 10, 2011 5:27 PM - Jensen: outside meeting
Aug 10, 2011 4:50 PM - Ross H: Should we plan on meeting outside again, or just come straight up?
Aug 10, 2011 4:49 PM - Jensen: reminder 7:15pm
Aug 8, 2011 11:18 AM - Jensen: looks like we will be playing Wednesday without the fearless skittles. see you guys on Wednesday night, same place as last week
Aug 6, 2011 11:32 AM - Jensen: Tuesday only other day I can play.
Aug 6, 2011 11:26 AM - Ross H: I could do Friday, but not the other days.
Aug 6, 2011 10:48 AM - Graham: any chance of moving next weeks game? My wife is having a procedure and, although she didn't ask I'm sure i need to be home for her. I'm free tues, thrus, and friday. If not no worries sorry to have to ask.
Aug 4, 2011 1:30 PM - Tommy T: Thomas Thorsen
Aug 4, 2011 12:50 PM - Jensen: Tommy what is your last name so I can put it at the front desk for signing in tonight? I have everyone elses. Remember 7:15pm, 1 Pace Plaza, Huge Building cant miss right before bk bridge, Front entrance, Tell them your there to go to 501 give them your name, ID. Graham or I will show you to the place
Aug 4, 2011 11:44 AM - Ross H: He's still not entirely sure he trusts his new compatriots (and they probably don't really trust him - perhaps for good reason!), but he's pretty sure that he's better off with some kind of tribe than on his own. So, no mysterious throat-slitting in the middle of the night. For now.
Aug 4, 2011 11:43 AM - Ross H: Many years ago, Lukan's tribe... "acquired" a powerful artifact from a wealthy trader. Look, if he didn't want to give it up, why did he let himself get poisoned by that tempting beverage? Well, when he recovered from his nausea, it turned out that he was a bit better connected than they'd expected. And so Lukan's tribe was slaughtered or enslaved one evening while Lukan was hunting. The trader got what was coming to him, but Lukan remained an elf without a tribe.
Aug 3, 2011 4:51 PM - Kenny P: Wait, so we're playing in a sandbox? :P
Aug 3, 2011 4:12 PM - Jensen: Alright found a spot for us. It's at Pace University. 1 Pace Plaza, not where u guys went before. The large building next to 41 park row. I'll meet you all out front of 1 Pace Plaza at 7:15 and bring u to the desert playground.
Aug 3, 2011 2:55 PM - Tracy: Asteron is an illiterate, net fighting, enslaved Minotaur Gladiator Fighter. He lived in Tyr until slavery was abolished, not knowing how to maintain a life of his own he sought out a new master in a new city to enslave him and put him to work doing what he does best...fighting.
Aug 3, 2011 2:18 PM - Ross H: Works for me! I just have very bad memories of a couple days when it *wasn't* working, and it was like death. Then again, that might be very appropriate for Dark Sun!
Aug 3, 2011 2:17 PM - Tracy: It was working fine on Saturday...it wasn't an ice box, but I didn't break into a sweat either...plus you can drink beer. Copious amounts of sweet sweet beer.
Aug 3, 2011 2:05 PM - Ross H: Could try Au Bon Gout and see if they've fixed the AC issue...
Aug 3, 2011 10:15 AM - Jensen: So reminder we are all playing tomorrow night at 7:30. Where should we venture to play that is open till atleast 11:30? thoughts?
Jul 30, 2011 3:22 PM - Tommy T: http://wizards.com/dnd/Article.aspx?x=dnd/updates a few changes for the Dark Sun books just got issued. Biggest changes are to Spirit of Athas (lasts an encounter) and Gauntlet Axe (no longers counts as a light shield).
Jul 29, 2011 7:25 PM - Kenny P: Solusandra appears human except for her queer orange eyes. She was a scientist in a bygone era, recently freed from imprisonment. Her only weapon is her brilliant, SCHOLARly mind. buahahahahaha
Jul 29, 2011 2:41 PM - Gary: Whisky Jack has a nasty bone axe - maybe I'll take headsman's chop. I'll be playing the mercenrary theme - 52 year old veteran, True Grit style.
Jul 29, 2011 1:44 AM - Tracy: So if anyone wants to fight with an awesome Bone Axe and take the Headsman's Chop Feat...you will not regret it! ;) My Net Fighting Minotaur Barbarian is all about knocking them down...and keeping them there.
Jul 29, 2011 1:43 AM - Jensen: Nomad works great Tommy
Jul 28, 2011 1:03 AM - Tommy T: I'd also be willing to alter my character for the Dune Trader theme if that works better for the adventure or the other PCs.
Jul 26, 2011 3:47 PM - Tommy T: I'm going with a Thief with the Wasteland Nomad theme. He's a jack of all trades, an honorable thief, a xbow marksman and looking for adventurers to join him in his quest to liberate treasure and secrets of the Athas long forgotten!
Jul 25, 2011 3:56 AM - Jensen: Gary u can email me at chrisjjensen@earthlink.net
Jul 24, 2011 11:55 AM - Tracy: Woo-Hoo! I'll do both then.
Jul 24, 2011 11:54 AM - Ross H: Tracy, I think Gamma World is now a one-session thing on the 28th - James, is that right?
Jul 24, 2011 11:53 AM - Tracy: Is this Aug 4th date set in stone? I just realized it directly conflicts with the Gamma World date. (Which Ross, myself,...and Jensen are signed up for)I'll pick this over Gamma. :)
Jul 24, 2011 9:44 AM - Gary: Chris, what e-mail address do you want me to send the write up to?
Jul 22, 2011 10:08 PM - Jensen: End of Next weekend I need to know your guys background themes. Also, since this is level 8 in Dark Sun I need to know how you guys are all together (still) in this desolate desert world. slaves, ex slaves, gladiators, mercs, traders, guild, u guys come up with something and i will incorporate it,
Jul 22, 2011 9:20 PM - Jensen: For free You may choose Bone weapons/armor appropriate for your character, no metal. Than use your money on any adventuring equipment you want.
Jul 22, 2011 9:16 PM - Jensen: Now to the chosen 6 delving into Darksun here is the low down: Make sure when building character to click Dark sun Campaign, click inherent bonuses. You may choose any theme available, I rather like the dark sun themes since they fit the world a lot better but any theme is acceptable. DO NOT choose your Wild Talent, you will randomly get one at the first session. Do Not choose any magic items. Just click inherent bonus. You all get 1 magic healing fruit, equivalent to a potion of healing.
Jul 22, 2011 4:43 PM - Jensen: Ok, so first to James: I can move the wed (8/10) game to the tuesday the 9th if it works with everyone else. Im not able to play 11-14.
Jul 22, 2011 4:14 PM - Kenny P: I'm joining cause it's just not hot enough outside! xD
Jul 22, 2011 2:09 PM - James L: Wife moved the 8/3 interview back a week, sucks because then it conflicts with the Wed 8/10 session, Arrgh!
Jul 22, 2011 11:09 AM - James L: Don't go to too much trouble to accommodate me, but that Wednesday 8/3 is actually a Pediatric Doctor Interview which I think I can move to another week.
Jul 22, 2011 9:31 AM - Ross H: I'd just keep an eye on conflicts with Cairn, which starts on 8/1 - I know at least some of us are in both games.
Jul 22, 2011 9:04 AM - Gary: So if James can't make those dates, I'm good to try another date for our first session unless it will not be feasible? Maybe 8/1 if Jensen reckons he'll be ready by then?
Jul 21, 2011 9:36 PM - Tommy T: Thanks for the heads up. It'll be at least another week or so before I can make a character. Maybe a Kalashtar Sorc-King Warlock but with the veiled alliance theme so no one knows what side I'm on.
Jul 21, 2011 8:57 PM - Tracy: I think DS themes only as it plays an important part in the story. I had created a character with a common +2 item for neck, weapon, and armor and 1 potion of healing and got the thumbs up. So I'm I believe that is all you get.
Jul 21, 2011 8:53 PM - Tommy T: Thanks, Tracy. Do you know if we're sticking to DS themes, or if we can use the new generic ones? (though in all likelyhood I'll stick with the DS themes myself, it's nice to know if that option is there). Also, Inherent Bonuses purposesly puts you behind the power curve like James mentioned (I'm fine with this also).
Jul 21, 2011 7:03 PM - James L: Click "Inherent Bonuses" that should handle magic items. Although this is level 8 so maybe Jensen wants you to start with 1 or 2 also.
Jul 21, 2011 6:54 PM - Tracy: I was told to make sure: Select the Dark Sun option when creating characters as its true DS style. No gnomes, divine magic, metal...
And yes Themes are in. (and very important) :)
Jul 21, 2011 5:04 PM - James L: I want to fight side by side with Gary
Jul 21, 2011 5:01 PM - James L: Birthing Class, Birthing Class, Father-in-law visiting, Father-in-law visiting!
Jul 21, 2011 4:58 PM - Tommy T: ah, Graham, I was totally gonna be a Thri-Kreen Scout!! Haha. It's ok. I have other things planned. More importantly, how Dark Sun are we doing this game? No magic items? Themes? Racial restrictions (ie no Gnomes)? Any restrictions on Veiled Alliance/Templars factions?
Jul 21, 2011 4:41 PM - Gary: Graham, I am going to make your Bug a killing machine!!!!
Jul 21, 2011 4:40 PM - Gary: @James!!! He's back! You outta town for those dates or just being difficult? Would be great to have you join this desert soiree!
Jul 19, 2011 6:17 PM - Tracy: Yippee Skippy! I'm in!
Jul 19, 2011 11:41 AM - Jensen: no gary this ones for u.
Jul 19, 2011 7:40 AM - Gary: What!?! Someone else leaving too? Thanks buddy, one last, last, last rumble. Can't wait!
Jul 18, 2011 11:46 PM - Jensen: This one is for a great player that will be missed state side in the near future. What better way to send him off than an awesome little campaign adventure in Dark Sun
