Dark Sun - Revenge of the Marauders
Cost: $0.00
Level: 6

First Session: Monday -- September 5th, 2011 -- 6:00 PM
[Eastern Time]

Approx. Length: 2-3 sessions

A cool Dark Sun adventure against a powerful opponent. This one is shorter, probably closer to 2 sessions.

The raider lord Yarnath prowls the wastelands in his crawling citadel called Slither. A mobile fortress built from the animated undead bones of gargantuan beasts. Not long ago, Yarnath bent all his effort toward recovering an artifact fragment known as the Crown of Dust. But someone beat him to it.

Yarnath did not come away empty-handed. Though he did not find the fragment he sought, his raiders located the crown jewel of the ancient artifact. This red stone, called the Blood Jewel, is the crystallized blood of an ancient primordial. With it, Yarnath might unlock the power of a being mighty enough to slay the ancient gods. Does anyone dare to oppose him?

Some people might say this is a sequel, but it is not.

Sep 14, 2011 2:43 PM - Jensen:
Sep 14, 2011 12:18 PM - Graham: VOTE!
Sep 5, 2011 12:49 PM - Ross H: Running maybe 10-15 minutes late, sorry!
Sep 4, 2011 9:20 PM - Graham: sorry i miss typed the address its: 226 W. 47th 9th floor. Between the edison and the W hotel. Theater Guild Building. Call or text me 646-221-7346
Sep 4, 2011 6:20 PM - Josh M.: Same rules as in the book. You can have both, but inherent bonuses do not stack with magic weapon bonuses. And there is a chance your magic weapon may break.
Sep 4, 2011 6:18 PM - Romo: inherent bonuses or magic items? or both ;)
Sep 4, 2011 4:00 PM - Ross H: Also, could I send someone a pdf of my character sheet to print? I can probably find a printer somewhere, but could be easier if someone who has a printer could help out... Thanks!
Sep 4, 2011 3:41 PM - Ross H: In terms of getting in to the building tomorrow, is there anything in particular we should tell a building guard, etc? Or just show up and get on the elevator?
Sep 3, 2011 12:33 AM - Tracy: oh yeah, if a striker takes headsman chop...
Sep 3, 2011 12:19 AM - Tracy: Harask Mo'Tamur swore an oath to the spirits of Athus to protect the remaining oasis of the land from harm. A threat has arisen to my home and I must answer the call of my primal ancestors to rid my countryside of it.
Sep 2, 2011 4:35 PM - Josh M.: You can just pick those.
Sep 2, 2011 2:05 PM - Jensen: wild talents: picked by us or random at the table?
Sep 2, 2011 12:07 PM - Tracy: I am super stoked for this! :)
Sep 2, 2011 9:29 AM - Josh M.: Yeah, I was planning on doing weapon breakage, and no metal. Dark Sun themes, Defiling/Preserving, etc.
I guess most people have already picked out there characters, but if possible I'd like to stick to the 'allowed' Dark Sun races in the campaign book.
Sep 2, 2011 9:05 AM - Romo: Shuffled some things around and will be there!
Sep 2, 2011 9:01 AM - Jensen: Ok so how Dark Sun are we going with this campaign? Metal banned? magic Items or inherent bonuses? or a mix? We doing the all items not metal have a chance of breaking on a 1?
Sep 2, 2011 7:32 AM - Josh M.: Also, I opened it up for 6 people.
Sep 2, 2011 12:47 AM - Josh M.: Goddamn, ya'll are a bunch of pains in the ass. :P
I think I've got the reservation re-opened until noon sunday, and we'll start the game at 1pm Monday and see how far we get, adding sessions as necessary.
let me know if I F'ed something in the A.
Sep 1, 2011 11:28 PM - Ross H: Yeah, I'm definitely in for 1pm Monday, if you want to open up registration!
Sep 1, 2011 11:25 PM - Romo: ugh I am working that day I can't start till like 3:30 if that's too late i'll just drop out.
Sep 1, 2011 8:33 PM - Jensen: 1pm works for Brennan. Im speaking for him since He cant get on the interested list.
Sep 1, 2011 8:03 PM - Graham: I cant play until 1pm on Monday =/ but I can play late into the night!
Sep 1, 2011 8:00 PM - Jensen: Hey Josh can you open up the rsvp and interested list so Brennan and Ross can join. I would join but dont want to bump Romo unless your opening this up for 6 people.
Sep 1, 2011 5:01 PM - Josh M.: Graham, would your wife's conference room be available all day monday?
Sep 1, 2011 4:32 PM - Tracy: I'm up for all day Monday. :)
Sep 1, 2011 4:22 PM - Ross H: I'm definitely down for an all day Monday session! Sounds great :)
Sep 1, 2011 4:02 PM - Josh M.: hey guys, sorry, been meaning to post about this, but have been kinda crazy busy.

It's sounding like we'd have enough people to do an all-day session on monday. Unless there are any major objections by those already committed, I can officially change the date/times to that.
Sep 1, 2011 2:24 PM - Jensen: same question as Ross. Brennan and I both are wondering about this too. I could possibly do this monday but cant do the others. I love dark Sun so Im so torn. Cant there be more time in the week? damn u 24 hour days
Sep 1, 2011 2:09 PM - Ross H: So, just checking - are we sticking with the dates/times listed here? Or going with an all-day session Monday? Trying to decide if I can fit this in, I'd love to join if I can!
Sep 1, 2011 2:07 PM - Graham: we can use my wife's recently renovated conference room in time square. It's a nice spot-260 west 47th. The theater guild building 9th floor
Aug 28, 2011 2:58 PM - Romo: I'll make a few different characters and see what is needed
Aug 25, 2011 4:01 PM - Josh M.: Other acceptable topics to bog down this thread with: excessive flattery of the DM, offers of monetary compensation for my time, hurricane survival tips
Aug 25, 2011 3:28 PM - Tracy: $.02 The rules are here due to those that have abused in the past. If everyone is that passionate then send personal emails and lets set up a campaign game separately and not bog down Josh's game thread. :D
Aug 25, 2011 3:27 PM - Rob R: Otherwise, I'm statting up my Ogre Barbarian with the "Charging Kit" for the next campaign game. Don't worry, I found someone who created a balanced PC version of an Ogre. : )
Aug 25, 2011 3:25 PM - Rob R: If we want hybrids, then state your case why they are OK and then hopefully convince James to allow them. That seems the best approach.
Aug 25, 2011 3:24 PM - Rob R: I'd hate to start a 6th level pc and restrict myself to just common items and then sit down with 5 other players who have all the latest uncommon combos.
Aug 25, 2011 3:23 PM - Rob R: Whether I agree with James or not the purpose of these rules is to assure that when I join a game, it's under the same set of guidelines.
Aug 25, 2011 2:07 PM - Ross H: Let's everyone take a deep breath here. We're all friends here. For better or worse, this community operates under a set of rules that may not be idealbut aren't at the end of the day that burdensome. Let's just take a deep breath & remember we're all here to have a good time.
Aug 25, 2011 2:05 PM - Ross H: Let's everyone take a deep breath here. We're all friends here. For better or worse, this community operates under a set of rules that may not be idealbut aren't at the end of the day that burdensome. Let's just play and have a good time and not worry so much about testing the boundaries here.
Aug 25, 2011 1:53 PM - Tommy T: Different games, even in the same system, call for different rules. It's just the nature of the game.
Aug 25, 2011 1:53 PM - Tommy T: The ban Rangers too. It's only fair. Ban Twin Strike. What about horribly unbalanced pre-existing PHB classes or ones that are awful. The Binder can be a serious detriment to the party and cost a TPK. Which means the story telling ends. I'm just saying, a DM should be able to make informed decisions based on the game he's playing and actually TALK to the players about what flies. We've already had to bend the rules to make starting at 8th level in Dark Sun NOT suicidal.
Aug 25, 2011 1:49 PM - James L: I'm not calling anyone an asshole. Hybrids are frequently abused by power-gamers. Banning them is the simplist solution. Blame them for ruining it for everyone else. Also people are expected to fill roles "striker, defender etc" hybrids go against that.
Aug 25, 2011 1:41 PM - Tommy T: I thought that's what brains are for... Also, the opinion of who an asshole is, power gamer is and good DM is, is subjective. Entirely. Your rules do not prevent people from disliking each other. It's an invalid argument.
Aug 25, 2011 1:41 PM - Josh M.: Sweet, I'm a hot girl. I guess I have my evening planned.
Aug 25, 2011 1:38 PM - James L: Yes but a good free thing attracts assholes. Imagine a nightclub, if it doesn't have a good door policy, pretty soon Joe six-pack is fist-pumping and grinding on hot girls, who will never come back. The good DM is like the illusive hot-girl who needs to be catered to, and rewarded, and kept sheltered, away from cheesy players. Thats what rules are for.
Aug 25, 2011 1:33 PM - Tommy T: Because this is a safe, reliable and useful way to meet players and generate schedules and games. I dunno if you're aware but it's hard as **** to organize a game of D&D, much less an actual campaign. Connect is a useful tool, or is that not what you wanted it to be?
Aug 25, 2011 1:31 PM - James L: If that drives some people away. Then the rules are doing their job. That's actually what they are there for.
Aug 25, 2011 1:30 PM - James L: What's the difference between just running a home game where everyone can do whatever the hell they want, and running a game here? The rules. You're free to do whatever you want outside this website, but not here.
Aug 25, 2011 1:24 PM - Tommy T: James, I like you. I really appreciate everything you've done for the group, but let's be honest. the PEOPLE make this the good thing that it is. Not your rules. Not the rules of the gaming system. Let Josh decide how he'd like to run the game.
Aug 25, 2011 1:20 PM - James L: and the rules and the intention of this entire venture had nothing to do with that? People were attracted by the rules and agreed to them by joining. Allowing the rules to be subverted and ignored breaks the social contract we all agreed to. That contract is what makes this a good thing.
Aug 25, 2011 1:18 PM - Tommy T: Can't seem to remember. All the good story telling got in the way.
Aug 25, 2011 1:17 PM - James L: Please tell me who used Hybrids I will ban them.
Aug 25, 2011 1:15 PM - Tommy T: James that doesn't explain the hybrids that were used in the last couple of campaigns.
Aug 25, 2011 12:43 PM - James L: The DM's rules do not trump this meetup Campaign Gaming's rules so the answer is still no Hybrids, no exceptions. Sorry, you can have your hybrid somewhere else. I'm sure you can create that concept using a Beastmaster and some multi-classing or purchase wolves for gp.
Aug 25, 2011 12:39 PM - Josh M.: And the 'why?'
Aug 25, 2011 12:30 PM - Romo: Oh james. I love your condescending attitude about anything new and different. Furthermore i create characters not builds. Hybridization gives me the ability to create all sorts of characters. And more often than not the build it self suffers for it. I am by means a power gamer or optimizer. I just like creating cool characters that can do cool things

Josh i built a thrikreen beastmaster ranger/sentinel. Its basically a bug with a wolfpack
Aug 25, 2011 10:26 AM - James L: Oh, there once was a time when D&D was about the story and not about the "build". Characters were defined by their actions not their powers. Oh those times were great, people rejoiced. I tried my hardest to push campaign gaming back to those time, but alas... 4th edition may be about the "build" and supports no other styles of gameplay.
Aug 25, 2011 10:15 AM - Josh M.: What hybrid build do you want to do, and why? :)
Aug 24, 2011 10:47 PM - Romo: I know the homebrew "rules" say no hybrids but please?? lol
Aug 17, 2011 5:26 PM - Josh M.: level 6.
Haven't decided on a spot yet. Probably either Au Bon Gout or Citicenter, unless someone has a better idea.
Aug 17, 2011 1:55 PM - bryinman2: what level are you looking for?
Aug 17, 2011 7:02 AM - Mat T: I'm not sure that I can make Labor Day. Where are you planning playing?
Aug 15, 2011 2:17 PM - Jason P.: I'm good for that as well.
Aug 15, 2011 1:13 PM - Tracy: I'm good with an all day Labor game. :)
Aug 15, 2011 10:35 AM - Josh M.: So a couple questions for people interested/committed: If Labor Day works for you, would a longer day session work in order to maybe cut out one of the following week sessions? And if that day doesn't work for you, what day during the week would be better?
Aug 11, 2011 12:19 PM - James L: wish I could play but the baby comes this month! Can only commit to one session things.
Jul 29, 2011 7:37 PM - John McCullough: Gotta check with the wife re: labor day.
Jul 27, 2011 2:59 PM - Josh M.: I don't have plans to go anywhere on the 5th, so I'm down for a Labor Day game day. If not enough people could make it though, we could switch that day to a different day of the week.

And yeah, 6:30 is fine with me.
Jul 27, 2011 2:23 PM - John McCullough: It might not matter, but September 5 is Labor Day, and it seems likely that people will be otherwise engaged.
Jul 27, 2011 2:08 PM - Ross H: Ooh, or that we could just play D&D *all day*.

Yes, I have no life. Anyway, whatever works for people :)
Jul 27, 2011 2:07 PM - Mat T: Keep in mind that 9/5 is Labor Day...might have some people not able to play then due to BBQs, vacations, etc. :) (not that I particularly mean me, but it popped into my head)
Jul 27, 2011 1:49 PM - Ross H: Oh yeah, +1 on that!
Jul 27, 2011 12:18 PM - Graham: can we start at 6:30?
Jul 24, 2011 11:15 AM - John McCullough: Monday nights are good for me, and I'm looking forward to returning to Athas.
Jul 23, 2011 12:20 PM - Josh M.: I've been wanting to run a game and I love the Dark Sun setting. September should work well for me, though the specific dates are flexible. I'd like to keep the group to 4 or 5 people, but if there's a big demand I can open it up for a sixth.
