Fane of the Drow - 4E
Cost: $0.00
Level: 11

First Session: Saturday -- February 11th, 2012 -- 10:00 AM
[Eastern Time]

Approx. Length: 3 sessions

Fantastic Locations: Fane of the Drow features two double-sided poster maps designed for roleplaying and miniatures skirmish play. An accompanying 16-page adventure can be dropped into any campaign. Enemies consist of creatures from various D&D miniatures. Miniatures skirmish scenarios are included for additional play options, written to allow Dungeon Masters to seamlessly integrate D&D Miniatures into the adventure. The two poster maps, which are scaled for tabletop play, can be put together to form the temple of the drow, while the reverse sides feature other fantastic dungeon locations players can explore.

Jun 28, 2012 8:24 PM - Kenny P: SIR! YES SIR!
Jun 28, 2012 7:30 PM - Vlad: I'd love to, and thanks for the invite, but I am afraid I can't commit to five months of the campaign
Jun 28, 2012 6:49 PM - Tracy: Kenny and vlad come sign up for Red Hand!
Feb 26, 2012 10:57 AM - Xerek: It was totally awesome and worth it. Thanks again!
Feb 26, 2012 10:55 AM - Rob R: Really glad you guys enjoyed it. It was tough to convert it without it being tough. I could've sprinkled a couple of easy encounters throughout but it would've then required another one or two sessions. Assaulting a 2 level Drow Temple to Lolth has to have at least 4 or 5 tough fights. It's a freakig temple to Lolth!!!
Feb 26, 2012 10:53 AM - Rob R: And the Yochlol Tempter somehow missing Gelmar with the exploding tentacles after he shapechanged from a Drow back to a Demon........ I still don't know how he missed with 4 attacks a 6,6,6 and 4.
Feb 26, 2012 10:51 AM - Rob R: And Callilly teleporting out of the tunnel and then ganking the Grimlock Berseker when he came out of the tunnel and tried to get to Gelmar from the other end.
Feb 26, 2012 10:48 AM - Rob R: Yeah, your guys teamwork was great. And that daily that weakens / gives vulnerabilty all 5 to adjacent was an encounter wrecker, especially with melee heavy enemies. Plus the finest in Thay automons basing the creatures with you so they couldn't easily get away.
Feb 25, 2012 11:42 PM - Kenny P: I gotta be honest, I had doubts about our party make-up but everyone really pulled through. Somehow, despite the disparity, we fought together in perfect synch.
Feb 25, 2012 11:35 PM - Kenny P: It's funny because we both went down at about the same time AND next to each other AND rolled the natural 20's one after the other. Clutch!

Great game Rob. The amount of work put into converting the adventure to 4E was rivaled by the fun had playing it. It was indeed epic.
Feb 25, 2012 10:37 PM - Tracy: I can't believe that both Anodyne AND AA-47 rolled natural 20's on death saving throws! We were dead! D-E-A-D DEAD. lol

You almost had us Rob. Well played.
Feb 25, 2012 10:35 PM - Tracy: Wow! Awesome game guys. Rob, really well done. Every encounter was epic and came down to the nitty-gritty. I love that we went through 3 encounters without a short rest. Well done! A great way to make it feel epic.
Feb 17, 2012 3:38 PM - Rob R: We'll see James. I'll talk to the players tommorrow.
Feb 17, 2012 1:09 PM - James L: Rob, if you want to just keep Fane of the Drow on the calendar, and keep it a Campaign Game that's fine.
Feb 17, 2012 1:07 PM - James L: I apologize profusely for the wishy-washiness. But I'm removing the Essentials-only restriction from the Campaign Games section. It's going back to the previous houserules. Also, going back to starting with "Common" items only. Feel free to switch your character if you were hating the Essentials thing, but you may only start with "Common" items and should follow all the other houserules which should feel pretty free and fair. Chris Perkins' "Circus" article convinced me of my error.
Feb 12, 2012 11:51 PM - Vlad: In my crusade against organics, I might make some exceptions for Kalashtar. And perhaps for a few representatives of bugbear and changeling species (only if you shapeshift into a warforged though!)

And yeah very nice job, Rob.
Feb 12, 2012 12:38 PM - Tracy: Rob you handled it like a pro. It's hard enough to run 1 encounter, but you let us pit one encounter against another without being in the middle of both. That was super cool and it was fun to fight alongside some goblins, its a shame that we have to kill them now. lol
Feb 12, 2012 10:42 AM - Rob R: I'm glad you guys enjoyed it. Made the extra work (and time) for that combined encounter worth it. I put up the others days up on the one-shot so make sure you head over and join.
Feb 11, 2012 8:41 PM - Kenny P: Tracy, frrrrieeeeeeend. :P
Feb 11, 2012 8:31 PM - Tracy: Very heroic Kenny.

Both would have flat out died in our 1st encounter of the game being unconscious in the digestive acids of the worm if you hadn't willingly dove down the gullet! Two separate times. lol
Feb 11, 2012 8:27 PM - Kenny P: Vlad, you had me at "EXCLAMATION!" lol

That fight with the purple worm was one of my favorites. I never thought diving into a monster's gullet was that much fun. I'd do it all again for you guys. <3
Feb 11, 2012 8:15 PM - Tracy: Statement: And the role-playing was awesome. (loved it Vlad!) Xerex: "I need to find some food to poison." Rob: "The purple worm swallows you." Xerex: "Okay, I poison myself." Kenny can't talk, and it is his best performance yet! Great game guys.
Feb 11, 2012 8:12 PM - Tracy: I know we shouldn't be posting here since technically this is not a "Campaign Gaming" event anymore, but well done Rob! Fantastic job today, I thought the Ice Dragon encounter from Winter of the Witch was going to be the most epic ever, but today's compared. :)
Feb 11, 2012 8:07 PM - Kenny P: I had an amazing time today. Great combats, great roleplaying, and great people. Next weekend can't come soon enough!
Feb 11, 2012 10:02 AM - Xerek: Am I at the wrong place or is no one here yet?
Feb 11, 2012 9:27 AM - Vlad: Dammit, missed my train by 30 secs. Looks like I will be 10-15 mins behind
Feb 10, 2012 11:19 PM - Rob R: See everyone tomorrow morning.
Feb 10, 2012 8:57 PM - Tracy: lol, I feel that! :)
Feb 10, 2012 8:56 PM - Xerek: Hey, or else i'm leavin :) Gotta treat a lady right on the weekends
Feb 10, 2012 8:54 PM - Tracy: I feel an ominous 'or else...' coming. :)
Feb 10, 2012 8:53 PM - Xerek: I aim to be there by 10. I do have other plans in the evening so this better not run past 6
Feb 10, 2012 8:43 PM - Tracy: Sweet, at least I'm considered fashionable!
Feb 10, 2012 8:42 PM - Vlad: I am coming at 10:30 to account for Tracy's fashionably late arrivals ;)
Feb 10, 2012 8:39 PM - Tracy: *correction* That's when I plan on showing up!
Feb 10, 2012 8:38 PM - Tracy: That's when I'm showing up! :)
Feb 10, 2012 8:32 PM - Kenny P: Confirming for tomorrow. 10 AM @ the Citigroup Center atrium, yes?
Feb 8, 2012 2:09 PM - Vlad: AA-47 is the latest word in Thay automata construction. This 360 lbs adamantine-plated tower of power can decimate everything in its path. It tramples over Halflings with its steel spiked feet, plows through giants with the its steam-powered hammerhand, and shoots dragons out of the sky with the shoulder mounted crossbow. At the same time! Buy now, for quantities are extremely limited. The wizard responsible for this line of golems has already been assassinated.
Feb 8, 2012 2:09 PM - Vlad: The above exert from a Thay ad is all that AA-47 remembers of his own past. His memory core appears to have been damaged by a magical surge. When he recovered, he found a dead Thayan wizard at his feet. Logically assuming that the corpse was his master, AA-47 released himself from the service and left Thay to discover the world. His prime directive: terminate his enemies with extreme prejudice and protect his allies at all costs. His only problem now is that he can’t quite remember who is who.
Feb 7, 2012 5:59 PM - Vlad: I was thinking of either shaman/sent druid for leader, or weaponsmaster (actual defender) or some tanky bruiser for defender
Feb 7, 2012 5:48 PM - Kenny P: Unimaginable horrors assaulted her mind as her body was subjected to the mind flayers’ cruel experiments. She was pushed to the breaking point when psionic power manifested in a cataclysmic storm of telepathic energy, burning her captors’ minds to ash. A new creature emerged from the depths with only one thing on her mind: the annihilation of all drow. [Kalashtar Ardent/Phrenic Invader]
Feb 7, 2012 5:48 PM - Kenny P: Anodyne's hatred of the drow is so great that the very air around her seethes with her rage. She was originally known as Myrilandel, a half-elf maiden who was taken by dark elves during one of their surface raids and sold into slavery. She endured much beneath the earth; her body bent and broken from forced labor and torture, but her spirit remained undimmed. It wasn't until she was traded away as fodder to the illithids that she knew true despair.
Feb 7, 2012 3:33 PM - Kenny P: What classes were you considering, Vlad?
Feb 7, 2012 2:00 PM - Vlad: Lemme know which role you end up going with, Kenny, and I'll pick the other one. Saves me the pain of agonizing over that decision myself :p

Feb 6, 2012 11:23 AM - Kenny P: I'm relieved that we are using the previous house rules for this game. Frees me to pick a more interesting defender or leader. (I'm thinking a warden or ardent.) I'll make my character tonight and post it online.
Feb 6, 2012 10:45 AM - Rob R: To be clear, I will respect James wishes / rules and not run games thru the "Campaign Gaming" portion of this site unless I follow his rules.
Feb 6, 2012 10:43 AM - Rob R: I will move this game to the "One Shot games" of this site. The seats are reserved for the original players who were on the RSVP list as of 2 days ago. We will continue to use the house rules under which this game was originally posted - mainly no at-will attack boosting feats for classes that make "only" basic attacks (Such as Essentials).
Feb 5, 2012 7:21 PM - Tommy T: Apparently I'm kicked from Meetup as well. Who knows why. Haven't posted on there in weeks.
Feb 5, 2012 6:43 PM - Tommy T: Because I said I don't care if someone shows up with a hybrid vampire. It's heresy around here.
Feb 5, 2012 6:39 PM - Kenny P: How did you get booted?
Feb 5, 2012 6:25 PM - Tommy T: Rob it's up to you if you still want me to play.
Feb 5, 2012 6:24 PM - Tommy T: Guess I'm booted
Feb 4, 2012 12:31 AM - Tommy T: At this point I don't care if someone shows up with a hybrid Barbarian/Psion multiclassed into Vampire.
Feb 4, 2012 12:18 AM - Kenny P: I'm really bummed that psionic classes are not allowed in regular non-setting specific games. I was hoping to be an ardent.
Feb 3, 2012 4:21 PM - Vlad: Sorry Rob, I don't yet know if I can make the game. My work schedule might call for me working on Saturdays in February. I should know more by Monday/Tuesday of next week.
Feb 2, 2012 8:17 PM - Kenny P: *facepalm*
Feb 2, 2012 5:56 PM - Tommy T: James you're not even IN this game.
Feb 2, 2012 5:11 PM - James L: I made some major changes to the houserules. Most significantly: Essentials Only. See here http://rpgconnect.org/popup_instruct_SE.html and see a discussion of why here http://www.meetup.com/NYC-DND/messages/boards/thread/20097372 They take effect immediately. Players in any game that has not already started will probably need to make sure their class is still playable, if not, change.
Feb 1, 2012 10:03 PM - Xerek: Calililly was brought up in the ways of the ninja (Executioner). Her favorite past time is assassinating an important figure, impersonating that person and ruining lives, one death at a time. She's a jack-of-many weapons and is surprisingly quiet for all the bits of metal she carries around...alas, hammer space is wonderful and no one ever catches her
Feb 1, 2012 11:43 AM - Xerek: I'm still in, i'll make my character this evening and post
Feb 1, 2012 10:43 AM - Tracy: Melagar grew up as the runt of his litter. Constantly ostracized by his peers he used to spend his days avoiding conflict by hiding in the tallest trees he could find. It was in these days that Melagar perfected the art of being stealthy and observant. His bow is hand carved from fine oak and each arrow individualized based on the type of tree he was camping in. What he lacks in physical prowess he makes up for with deadly precision.
Feb 1, 2012 10:07 AM - Rob R: Tommy's post is great. I'm not looking for a 2-pg backstory. (thanks Tommy).
Feb 1, 2012 10:05 AM - Rob R: And if I can get the background info I previously asked for (race, class, paragon, background info) that would just be super duper
Feb 1, 2012 10:04 AM - Rob R: Can I get a little shout out from Tracy, Xerex & Vlad so I can be sure that this hasn't fallen off anyone's radar.
Jan 29, 2012 7:29 PM - Tommy T: Chuck Mindbender, Illusionist for Hire. Human Mage (Illusion Mastery) with the Battleweaver PP. He's a sleazy illusionist (very akin to Chris Angel) with very high bluff modifier. He's a good guy, just self serving. He's taking a break from his very popular road show when he was sent a summons for aid from the Stonehelm Dwarves.
Jan 29, 2012 3:16 PM - Rob R: My preference would also be two longer but I'm not sure this could be done in 2 8-hr sessions. Until the first combat and seeing everyone in action, there's just too many variables to really make a good estimate.
Jan 28, 2012 2:22 PM - Xerek: So are you going to run this till like 7PM or? Are you aiming to do 2 longer sessions or 3 shorter? I would prefer 2 longer but that's just me.
Jan 22, 2012 1:32 PM - Ross H: I think I'm overcommitted, going to have to drop this I think :( Sorry y'all - have a good game!
Jan 14, 2012 8:18 AM - Rob R: I'd like to see your race / class / paragon and a little background info on your pc around the beginning of February so I can incorporate the party into the mod.
Jan 9, 2012 8:09 PM - Tracy: I'm still in! :)
Jan 8, 2012 9:17 PM - Ross H: These new dates should work for me.
Jan 8, 2012 8:27 PM - Tommy T: I am going to stay in this, and hopefully winter of the witch and madness at gardmore abbey I can play it. If not, I'll drop in the next week or so.
Jan 8, 2012 7:18 PM - Rob R: I'm thinking February - if there are any requests let me know.
Jan 8, 2012 7:18 PM - Rob R: I will have to postpone this to later. We are actually down to three due to one of the players not realizing they were on the committed list, due to players dropping out he popped back up on the list.
Jan 8, 2012 7:16 PM - Rob R: Tracy - your right about the time constraints. I much prefer to do 7 or 8 hour sessions.
Jan 5, 2012 11:56 PM - Tracy: Depending on how much of a sandbox vs railroad this is, 3 meetings of 6 hours for 13 paragon encounters is an average of about one and a half hours per combat (without breaks). Maybe we should run this until 5 pm to be safe?
Jan 5, 2012 9:44 PM - Rob R: BTW - Got my hands on a copy of Hellspike Prison last week.
Jan 5, 2012 9:43 PM - Rob R: At least 4 PM. Anything less and it'll drag on. There are about 13 encounters.
Jan 5, 2012 4:25 PM - James L: How late in the day do you plan for these to go? 10AM to what time?
Dec 18, 2011 1:43 AM - John McCullough: I overcommitted for january. Gonna have to drop this. Have a great game all.
Dec 4, 2011 11:40 PM - Rob R: Or it could just be my poor memory..... *shrug*
Dec 4, 2011 11:40 PM - Rob R: James, Nope no copy of Hellspike prison. I do remembering playing it but do not remember all that much about it. I played it as part of an LG adaption (LFR equivalent) and it might have suffered from the rushed play / lack of time for role-playing indicative of that play style. Oftentimes, the story was so rushed / edited that nothing ended up being memorable.
Dec 2, 2011 12:49 PM - Rob R: James, I don't think I have that one. I'll try to remember to check this weekend.
Dec 2, 2011 11:59 AM - James L: Rob, do you have "Hellspike Prison" which was another Fantastic Location?
Nov 29, 2011 1:48 PM - Rob R: This looks interesting. Would've helped immensely with my conversion if it came out THIS August
Nov 7, 2011 4:56 PM - Tracy: They are definitely my favorite villains! :)
Nov 3, 2011 11:32 PM - Rob R: At first there were a few isolated attacks but the Drow have stepped up their incursions. The Dwarves ask you to travel to the mining area with a reinforced Dwarven War Party and put an end to the evil Drow. They await their first responses.....
Nov 3, 2011 11:30 PM - Rob R: The Dwarves of Stonehelm have reached out through their contacts and summoned various adventurers. Their farthest-ranging miners have recently encountered Drow & Goblin raiders.
Nov 3, 2011 11:27 PM - Rob R: Sign up and face off against "Everyone's" Favorite Villains. I converted this from 3.5. The maps are large and beautiful. Well suited to 4e's bigger battle spaces.
