Another conversion from Chris Perkins of the classic Frost Giants adventure.

Leagues East from the forest locale of the Steading of the Hill Giant Chief, amidst the tallest mountain peaks, is the stronghold of the Frost Giant Jarl. As frost giants have been among those who have been in the reaving bands, the party is to deal with them as they did the Hill Giants: death and destruction are to be meted out to the frost giants in the same measure they gave these things to the peoples below.

Those members of the party who have participated in the raid upon the Steading should know by now that their most important mission is to gather intelligence as to what or who is behind the unholy alliance of Giant-kin. Any such information gained is to he delivered by the fastest means to the nobles sponsoring the expedition, while the party is to follow up clues in order to prosecute offenders. Any treasure taken is to be kept by the party; this is their reward for the perils they must face-and they are bound to face many in the weird ice caves and rocky caverns of the Jarl. The evil root is deeply grown here, far worse than among the Hill Giants.

As for pushing the next session to a different day, I'm fine with any except Sunday. But I can do Sunday if that's the only option.

It was a bit unfortunate that the twins showed up, but nice job with the Return of the Jedi move on the lieutenant. Well played.

I have to change that Thursday May 24th session as I just found out I need to be in D.C. to launch my catering program next week and I don't think my train will get me back on Thursday until after 8 o'clock.

May 10, 2012 2:44 AM - Kenny P: I'm pretty sure Tracy meant to bring a list of items your character would like to find during the course of the adventure. Your character would still start out with common items as per Campaign Rules.

May 9, 2012 3:48 PM - Tracy: Also for sake of time bring a wish list for your character based off of normal rules. In the character builder select the items you want but do not equip them. Make sure you indicate the item level and hand me the sheets at the table. Some encounters I will be randomly rolling for treasure and some I will include random items from your wish lists treasure parcels.

Also, I'm putting a lot into this so for those of you that wanted to but couldn't commit to this game, I will be running a second Frost Giants before the Fire Giants to accommodate.

May 3, 2012 1:55 PM - Tracy: Based off consensus I will leave as is unless we get pressed for time and we will play it by ear...although comparing a DnD adventure to a play is hillarious. A play isn't designed to level you up from 16 - 18 and therefore filled with encounters just to ensure you hit the xp cap. No worries we'll see what happens.

May 3, 2012 1:41 PM - James L: I strongly disagree with the "edit and no one will know." We aren't casual D&D players, we often read the adventures afterwards. Remember that story Jensen was talking about. How mad that author got that one theater-company was going to take out all the bad words of his play. Every single detail is there for a reason, some of which aren't readily apparent.
May 3, 2012 1:30 PM - John McCullough: My vote: Leave the mod unedited, let us pick our way through the adventure as we choose to, and give us the real-world time-limit of four sessions. We'll shorten the adventure ourselves by choosing paths that seem interesting/optimal.

Pro-tip: You could have edited and cut and rearranged the dungeon and we never would have known. We would have been happy as could be. Next time you want to edit, do it. Just keep your mouth shut. ;)
May 3, 2012 1:28 PM - Capt_Dan: Again, with the Stone Giants, I was quite concerned we'd be rushed at the end (because of me!) but I was actually quite pleased with the result. It felt like 'Our' adventure, and I would love to play it again, because I'm sure it would be very different.
May 3, 2012 1:26 PM - Capt_Dan: The aim is always fun/satisfaction - (Mimesis & Katharsis, for the over-educated!) and I would certainly trust Tracy to decide whether and how to 'Streamline' or not. Good sand-pits are essentially 'situations' like a bike chain, just going round, until the PC's get involved (like Gum in the chain) and cause a story to happen.
May 3, 2012 1:19 PM - Capt_Dan: I think part of the fun of some of these is that they are quite re-playable. my two-cents (for what it's worth - about $0.02) is that you should have everything, as far as possible or reasonable, ready to go and then see what happens. Some parties might slowly take their time, others beeline for the 'big-bad'. You'll know after 1-2 sessions how it will likely play out, and you'll be able to take a view on whether to add in extra sessions, or for the DM to 'streamline' a little bit. The aim is al

In fact, I'm tempted to rename the Gelatinous Cube a Flumph and hide it in your bag of holding. If there is a day that everyone could attend it would have to be before June 5th and we all agree on it.

May 3, 2012 12:26 PM - Tracy: I'm assuming that since we want to play through the entire Giants Mod that we want to at least get to the end..by whatever means you get there. I would post more sessions but John will not be able to attend. Nothing cut will be missed and by no means am I guardrailing anything. All I 'want' to happen is to finish this mod and if I leave it as is that isn't going to happen.
May 3, 2012 12:01 PM - James L: Site based adventures don't usually "read" well. They might seem boring at first read. You might think "oh that monster seems lame" but the interaction and chance of when and how you encounter that monster is where the fun happens. Being on the run, trying to find shelter stumbling into an encounter with a Flumph and a Duckbunny can be exciting. What if as you were growing up your DM decided "Gelatinous Cubes" are just stupid and replaced them all so you never saw them?
May 3, 2012 11:47 AM - James L: There's also not supposed to be an "epic conclusion" we might be able to sneak in, find the boss the first session, and kill him. That doesn't mean the adventure ends. It's something you have to get used to as DM, so you don't try to force "what you want" to happen, over the way things play out.

May 3, 2012 11:43 AM - James L: This is a "site-based" adventure, the whole point is exploring and finding things. Trying to stick to a storyline is the opposite of that.
May 3, 2012 11:40 AM - James L: Oh, wow that changes everything. I didn't know it was that long, I think more sessions are needed then, unless you want to only run 4 sessions. Any encounters we face should be because we stumbled into them, not because the DM forced us to go a certain way or edited some out.
May 3, 2012 11:40 AM - Tracy: I'm not changing anything in the adventure that pertains to the story line, its more based off of "does this have anything to do with the adventure?" If the answer is no, then there isn't a point in leaving it in if its going to sacrifice the epic conclusion.
May 3, 2012 11:36 AM - Tracy: The thing here is there are 23 encounters so there is no way to do it in 4 sessions without chopping things up a little bit. Some of these encounters are cool enough that I wouldn't want to skp them if I knew about it...like umber hulks. If I would have known I would have lobbied to fight them as I've never had an umber hulk encounter before.

May 3, 2012 10:55 AM - James L: In "Hill Giants" there were 12 encounters, I only skipped 2 (some umber hulks, and the Fire Giant who escaped). Groups should be able to do 3 encounters per 5 hour session. You guys were "Essentials only" though, and didn't have any slow players. Plus, there were 6 of you!.
May 3, 2012 10:42 AM - Tracy: Yes indeed, we are playing at level 16...chances are you will level up to 17 before we are through, but I'm cutting out a lot of encounters that are there solely to drive xp up. If we want to get through this in 4 sessions there is no way I can leave every encounter in there.
