Introductory D&D Adventure
Cost: $0.00
Level: 1

First Session: Saturday -- September 1st, 2012 -- 12:00 PM
[Eastern Time]

Approx. Length: 1 session

This is a level 1 adventure run by a Meetup Dungeon Master to introduce new players to the meetup, to the Campaign Gaming rules, and to teach people how to play Dungeons & Dragons. Of course long-term meetup members are welcome to join in the fun and meet new members, but brand new members get priority seating via an artificially inflated 100 RSVP score.

This is not always the same D&D adventure. The Dungeon Masters are given a list of level 1 adventures to choose from. They will state in the comments section the name of the adventure and a little teaser text on what players can look forward to.

Look for Dungeon Master's who have earned high numbers in the "DM Feedback" section next to their name. If they have not earned votes, they themselves are most likely beginners, or not vetted by this meetup yet. It is like buying something from someone on Ebay that has no feedback: you are taking all the risk into your own hands. Also avoid Dungeon Master's who do not put a real picture of themselves on their profile.

Oct 20, 2012 9:32 PM - John McCullough: Hey, I haven't seen anyone on any other interested lists yet... there have been a lot of higher level games run lately, but there is a level 4 game starting soon. It's here if you are interested: http://www.rpgconnect.org/event_coop.php?event_id=500741
Oct 5, 2012 1:56 PM - James L: Thanks that's a good suggestion. I don't want to travel if I don't get to play though. I tried to write all that explanation stuff up, it's just that people don't read it. I need to find people willing to run tons of intro games.
Oct 3, 2012 1:06 PM - Matt L.: Also, you may get some volunteers that could help with the organizing and/or find people with some good suggestions that you've been trying to get from the participants. I hope this reaches you! And great game everyone I had a fantastic time.
Oct 3, 2012 1:04 PM - Matt L.: Hey James I just had an idea that perhaps you may find useful about this D&D hobby organization you created. Maybe it would be good to have a general information meeting where all are welcome to attend. Those who are new and on the fence about committing could at least learn more about what D&D has to offer while also learning about how your website works. For the experienced players who are also new to this group you might be able to cajole more DM's to participate.
Sep 24, 2012 4:04 PM - Matt L.: I may be a little late. I had to make an unplanned trip to my hometown today but I am on my way back. I should get to PABT around 6:45, so I may even get there on time, provided traffic isnt terrible.
Sep 24, 2012 12:22 PM - James L: but I think the circlet of authority benefits us all, and in the interest of spreading the "Word" of Erathis and her teachings, that treasure should not be taken out of the "church's" share. My treasure goes to the "church", so keep that in mind.
Sep 24, 2012 12:20 PM - James L: also, I got the Circlet of Authority. There's the Guardian Whistle, I think the swordmage received Magic Armor+1.
Sep 24, 2012 12:16 PM - James L: I'm back from the dead and more authoritative than ever. I had the money count, right? Adding it all up, (I think I got it all) Only thing I don't have was the value of the non-magical symbol of Bahamut. Total:1,172gp + 5sp in coins and gems. That already takes out 400gp for the Resurrection
Sep 23, 2012 7:59 PM - Matt L.: fleeting ghost for utility and light blade expertise for me. Unsure about items.
Sep 23, 2012 6:54 PM - Thelvar: Hey John went looking through the books and found: Ultilty Power Level 2- Host of Shields in Arcane Power Pg. 53 and for the one item I chose After Shock Weapon fron ADV2 Pg. 15. See you Tommorow.
Sep 22, 2012 10:07 PM - John McCullough: I can't play on Tuesday, so we will be playing on Monday again. Matt, the Thief class is from Heroes of the Fallen Lands, one of the newer 'Essentials' line of rulebooks.
Sep 22, 2012 1:44 PM - Matt L.: This is stuff we can find in the players handbook, correct? Just want to make sure there isnt a special book. Also, any day is really fine for me so if we change back to monday ill still be game.
Sep 21, 2012 2:32 PM - John McCullough: Also, remember to look at items, feats and level 2 utility powers you might be interested in. If you post them here, I'll update your character sheets and print out new ones for Monday night.
Sep 21, 2012 2:31 PM - John McCullough: Tuesday is not good for me.
Sep 20, 2012 4:56 PM - Matt L.: Ya tuesday is fine. Good thing I checked my spam folder, somehow gmail decided I should no longer look at rpgconnect.
Sep 20, 2012 1:06 PM - Thelvar: Im Good for Tuesday again. I also think a few more blessings might help out a wee bit more. For it was a wee bit too close to call last time.
Sep 20, 2012 12:50 PM - James L: Tuesday is fine with me.
Sep 20, 2012 12:15 PM - Jeannine: Do y'all think we could do this on Tuesday again?
Sep 20, 2012 12:14 PM - Jeannine: That was er... Interesting. Blessing of Might. Maybe that's how we finally got Zarr!
Sep 19, 2012 10:55 AM - James L: I saw the light! It was beautiful. Now that I am returned to life, I will cast a blessing on you. "La la la," ..waves hands around..."Trust me this is good for you"...shakes hands vigorously! "whew I'm tired"...falls asleep.
Sep 18, 2012 2:44 PM - Thelvar: I have an idea of how to retreat as well as get you of of the pit, but its going to sting a bit.
Sep 18, 2012 2:26 PM - James L: Thanks for changing the day. I look forward to a hasty retreat, as soon as I climb out of this pit.
Sep 15, 2012 10:16 PM - Matt L.: yea was hoping we could consider a retreat!
Sep 14, 2012 12:33 PM - John McCullough: Alright, game has been moved to Tuesday. James makes an excellent point - not every fight must be to the death. Avoiding conflict and retreating when necessary are important considerations.
Sep 14, 2012 11:47 AM - James L: We could run away
Sep 14, 2012 11:45 AM - Thelvar: Im fine with Tuseday. Sorry been busy here at work, looking foward to see how we are going to survive, if we can.
Sep 14, 2012 11:17 AM - John McCullough: Tuesday is fine with me. Greg?
Sep 14, 2012 11:03 AM - Jeannine: That would work
Sep 12, 2012 12:59 PM - Matt L.: not a problem for me.
Sep 12, 2012 10:36 AM - James L: for next week, would moving the game to Tuesday instead of Monday be a big pain for everyone?
Sep 9, 2012 5:39 PM - John McCullough: Reminder, we will be playing again tomorrow night (Monday) at 7pm at Cafe au bon Gout. See you all soon.
Sep 4, 2012 8:04 PM - John McCullough: Also, voting is now up for this mod. You should some radio buttons and checkboxes next to the list of committed adventurers, and some next to my name up above. Your votes help determine who earns RSVP points, and thus who gets priority seating at rpgconnect campaign games.
Sep 4, 2012 3:24 PM - John McCullough: I prefer not to add players after the first session. It disrupts the flow of the game. Hopefully everyone on the waiting list will get a chance to play in another game soon.
Sep 4, 2012 2:25 PM - Matt L.: Unless samojo and frogger can commit to next week, should we see if we can get 2 from the waiting list in?
Sep 4, 2012 2:20 PM - Matt L.: Yea last night was awesome. I am really looking forward to next week. I am regretting we didn't scout the other side of the room first beforehand to see what we may be up against but being surprised is more fun.
Sep 4, 2012 11:46 AM - James L: As much as it sucks to have some no-shows. I'll also say some of the blame comes from the site not sending out reminders, and also not showing people who are overflowed on the list, and not informing people that someone left and they are currently back on the list.
Sep 4, 2012 9:22 AM - John McCullough: Good game last night everyone. Glad to see so many new faces. I had a good time running and I hope you are all having fun playing. Stay tuned for next week when discover what lurks behind the curtains!
Sep 1, 2012 10:28 AM - John McCullough: Hi all. Here's a link to see the pre-gen characters that I will be bringing. I will print them out and have them all on hand when we play, but you can feel free to take a look if you want. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/an3fp95wgwbrt7o/2hXHs0JNqq
Aug 30, 2012 3:07 AM - samojo: Yeah, I'm still playing :)
Aug 30, 2012 12:20 AM - John McCullough: Frogger and Samojo, please reply and confirm that you still plan to play. Thanks.
Aug 29, 2012 2:24 PM - Thelvar: Ok got it now no problems.
Aug 29, 2012 2:08 PM - John McCullough: Thelvar (et al) at the top of this page is a list of game sessions. Each session lists a date, time and location. This game is likely to take 5 sessions, so we will be meeting on Monday nights for the next 5 weeks.
Aug 29, 2012 2:04 PM - James L: Just so this is clear. Signing up for this game is signing up for an adventure that will meet every Monday evening for the next 5 weeks.
Aug 29, 2012 2:01 PM - Thelvar: So no game this Sat then, just want to make sure.
Aug 29, 2012 1:56 PM - Thelvar: At what time?
Aug 29, 2012 1:32 PM - John McCullough: The first meeting is on Monday, Sept 3rd at Cafe Au Bon Gout at 30th and 5th. We'll be playing in the upstairs dining area in the back of the store.
Aug 29, 2012 12:55 PM - Thelvar: Im still in, have my new dice and a new players book ready.Just not sure where the game is?
Aug 29, 2012 11:37 AM - Jeannine: As a new player I'll be more than happy to hop on one of those pre-gen characters to contribute to the Group.
Aug 29, 2012 11:32 AM - Matt L.: Just so that I understand this clearly, is the first meeting on the 3rd?
Aug 29, 2012 11:00 AM - James L: It's somewhat important that these games are normally not First-Come-First-Served. Points determine seating. Winning points is determined by peer-voting, and DM earn points faster. For this specific event, since it is for Introducing players, everyone gets a 100 score essentially making this event First-Come-First-Served.
Aug 29, 2012 10:56 AM - John McCullough: I've updated the location to Cafe au Bon Gout. It's on the SW corner of 30th and 5th. We'll be playing in the upstairs dining area in the back. See you all soon.
Aug 29, 2012 10:54 AM - John McCullough: For those who have committed, please post a message confirming that you are still playing. Also take a look at what the other people in your party are playing and try to get a well-rounded band of adventurers. Right now you have two strikers and two defenders with no leader and no controller. I'll bring a wide variety of pre-gens to choose from so we can adjust the party composition at the table as well.
Aug 29, 2012 10:51 AM - John McCullough: Hartke, James is the site administrator, but I'll be DMing this adventure. If you take a look at the right of the page, you'll see a list of committed adventurers. Those are the people that have already RSVP'd and who have seats at the table. Seats are awarded to those with the highest points on a first-come, first-served basis. This table is already filled, but there are a ton of other great games being offered in the campaign games section of the site right now.
Aug 28, 2012 3:39 PM - Hartke: Hi James! I've just RSVPed but I'm totally new to 4ed. I am a vet 3rd ed D&D and FR player though, and wouldn't mind using a pre-generated character - whatever class or race or alignment. Do you have any character that's part of the story or that you could share for me to use?
Aug 16, 2012 3:13 PM - James L: by new I mean new to the meetup, not D&D itself.
Aug 16, 2012 3:12 PM - James L: It's your seat, that's the way the system is supposed to work. This game is reserved for New Players.
Aug 16, 2012 3:04 PM - Matt L.: Sorry James! I never used RPGconnect before! If you want, I can back out. I've technically played D&D once before, about two years ago. A lot of it is pretty foggy to me still which is why I am here.
Aug 16, 2012 11:53 AM - James L: I spend time with her every day I don't play, as well as every weekend. Rob what are you doing in September? any requests?
Aug 16, 2012 11:49 AM - Rob R: Do what I do - "Honey, I decided to not play this week to spend time with you."
Aug 16, 2012 11:46 AM - James L: Now I know how it feels to be unseated. Looks like I will have to find something else to do in the month of September.
Aug 15, 2012 7:51 PM - John McCullough: Alright, due to the priority seating rules update I've changed this to an 'introductory game' so our newcomers can still get their rsvp point bump. I'll still be running the same adventure "Halls of Undermountain". I would ask that everyone double check your calendars and make sure you are available if you have committed.
Aug 15, 2012 7:50 PM - Capt_Dan: +1 John.
Aug 14, 2012 6:55 PM - Nileoc: Bwahaha! Well then, that list changed dramatically! I like this idea under the assumption there will be Introductory Adventures ran fairly often for new players. Otherwise I can see it taking a long time for new players getting the points needed to unseat experienced adventurers and DMs.
Aug 14, 2012 9:20 AM - James L: I'll make sure an Introductory game gets offered at the same time as this was being run, just not for 5 weeks. In case anyone gets bumped.
Aug 14, 2012 9:18 AM - James L: If people paid money, I'd give them a refund. Some DMs spend a lot of time and effort preparing adventures. They do this to earn priority seating. Also, we have had some issues in the past of people new to the site, rsvp'ing and then not showing up. This takes a seat from someone who would have really liked to play.
Aug 14, 2012 9:13 AM - James L: After a lot of deliberation. The rules for priority seating for new players on this website is only going to be limited to the adventures on the calendar named "Introductory D&D Adventure". These will be run specifically for new players.
Jul 24, 2012 8:19 PM - James L: If I get unseated, it might make me run one of the Encounters seasons.
Jul 24, 2012 1:22 PM - Capt_Dan: OriginalJee - jump in here and push James off the bottom! John is an excellent DM and a great place to start with D&D 4e.
Jul 14, 2012 1:04 AM - OriginalJee: Just moved to NY a couple months ago. I would love to get involved and learn 4th ed.
Jul 4, 2012 4:29 PM - frogger494:
Jun 16, 2012 7:50 PM - Jeannine: @John: Yes, please!
Jun 16, 2012 7:30 PM - John McCullough: If anyone is a brand new player, I'm happy to bring a selection of pre generated characters to choose from. I highly recommend the new red box or anything from the 'essentials' line.
Jun 16, 2012 6:45 PM - John McCullough: Thelvar, sounds good. Very FR friendly.
Jun 16, 2012 5:34 PM - Thelvar: Since I havent played 4th edition I decided to do some research and Figured I try a Swordmage: Aegis of Defense if that is ok.
Jun 16, 2012 1:27 PM - Rob R: For newer players, feel free to commit and bump others lower than you. That's what the points are for. If you feel uncomfortable keep in mind others may do it to you
Jun 16, 2012 11:52 AM - John McCullough: Times updated. That first session is on Labor Day, so keep an eye on that. I've planned on five sessions to allow a little extra time for new players. Great to see so many new faces.
Jun 14, 2012 12:15 AM - Tracy: I love all the new faces!
Jun 12, 2012 6:27 PM - Jeannine: I've never played before; I've only watched a few games. Would love to learn!
Jun 12, 2012 6:08 PM - Thelvar: Havent played in years so Im unsure of the new edition rules, but sounds fun to get involved again.
Jun 12, 2012 4:52 PM - Capt_Dan: Okay, makes sense. I can feel my heart rate calming...
Jun 12, 2012 4:50 PM - James L: its a minor bug. I didn't expect people to commit before sessions had been posted
Jun 12, 2012 4:49 PM - James L: that's becauuse he hasn't posted the first "session"
Jun 12, 2012 4:44 PM - Capt_Dan: Hm - I've gone "in" but nothing is showing...
Jun 11, 2012 1:28 PM - John McCullough: So, I'd like to keep this with a fairly strong 'FR' feel to it. So I highly encourage FR backgrounds, races, etc. PCs with a tie to Water deep are a plus.
Jun 11, 2012 10:20 AM - John McCullough: @Ross - fixed!
Jun 11, 2012 9:40 AM - James L: oh man, oh man, so many games so little time, this is great
Jun 11, 2012 9:17 AM - Ross H: John, you need to change the year on the "can show interest until" date - it's currently 1969, won't let anyone register as interested. But I am!
