Cost: $0.00
Level: 16

First Session: Tuesday -- January 8th, 2013 -- 1:37 PM
[Eastern Time]

Approx. Length: 4-5 sessions

Established by the warlock Thulzar and manned by the Order of the Endless Night, the fortress observatory of Starhaunt was once a guard post holding the line against the baleful stars that inhabit the night sky. The order kept a vigilant eye on these menacing stars, watching for any sign of their evil influence and preparing to push back extraterrestrial invaders.

As these astronomers kept watch, the dark stars eventually took notice of them.

It would help if players knew who the baleful stars Acamar, Hadar, Gibbeth, and Allabar were. There is an excellent primer at The Revelations of Melech

Feb 7, 2013 9:26 AM - AVacc: Thanks again T Michale - Loved every second!
Feb 6, 2013 4:26 PM - Tracy: A Shalt? But I ashked for some pepper!
Feb 6, 2013 2:49 PM - T Michael: Thank you to Paul for good sportsmanship and to AVacc for making it happen. We are playing and finishing this evening. I look forward to your assault upon the tower.
Feb 6, 2013 1:52 PM - AVacc: I will be there
Feb 6, 2013 8:26 AM - Paul: I agree. Please proceed if A Vacc can make it tonight. If we extend it to next week, the same thing will inevitably happen with someone else for some reason. UNLESS...we adopt the 25 hour work week! LinkedIn actually featured this article yesterday: http://www.inc.com/laura-entis/25-hour-work-week-an-argument-for-redistributing-working-hours.html Enjoy the game, and please, try not to disintegrate anyone.
Feb 6, 2013 8:08 AM - T Michael: Paul, thank you for your gracious comments. While I would like to play with everyone, if AVacc can make it tonight we should finish tonight. Everyone's schedules are complicated and I fear this getting pushed out too far.
Feb 6, 2013 12:52 AM - Kenny P: Wouldn't it be better to push this back a week? We're already down one man and another is not 100% sure. It'd be nice if everyone was there for the last session. :/
Feb 6, 2013 12:28 AM - Paul: Gentlemen: I will not be able to make it on Wednesday night of this week due to work that evening; however, I vote to go with the consensus of the party and for you to proceed on Wednesday if you wish. Though my character has played twice, and died once, the experience has been truly "stellar."
Feb 5, 2013 1:01 PM - AVacc: I wont know for sure until tomorrow afternoon.
Feb 5, 2013 1:01 PM - AVacc: If this works for everyone we should go ahead - There is a chance I wont be able to make it... So sorry...
Feb 5, 2013 12:52 PM - James L: so we are doing Wednesday? seems like it has to be that.
Feb 4, 2013 7:57 PM - Tracy: But I can do Wed.
Feb 4, 2013 7:56 PM - Tracy: No can do Thursdays. It's my running campaign night.
Feb 4, 2013 7:47 PM - Paul: The only dates available for me this week at this point are Thursday evening and Friday evening. I echo the work/life distractions of my own as of late.
Feb 4, 2013 7:35 PM - AVacc: Thursday is not an option? So sorry to be so difficult... Work and real life have been very distracting lately...
Feb 4, 2013 6:52 PM - James L: I can do Wednesday
Feb 4, 2013 1:07 PM - Kenny P: I can do Wed.
Feb 4, 2013 12:41 PM - T Michael: Given AVacc's wife's birthday, can everyone play on Wednesday night (the 6th) instead?
Feb 3, 2013 12:52 AM - Paul: Also, thank you everyone for your understanding of my own work related emergency situation last week.
Feb 3, 2013 12:50 AM - Paul: Monday, February 4th does not work for me, as I have previously scheduled matters. I could make Thursday, February 7th, however.
Feb 2, 2013 7:45 PM - Kenny P: Yes
Feb 2, 2013 6:20 PM - T Michael: Can everyone else play on Monday, february 4th?
Feb 2, 2013 4:34 PM - AVacc: So I have a slight problem.... The 5th is my Wife's birthday....
Feb 2, 2013 12:15 AM - Kenny P: The Path of Light is indeed a long and arduous road. At least the "spirits" are with us. :D
Feb 1, 2013 11:49 PM - T Michael: Just confirming that our next and final session will be Tuesday, February 5th.
Jan 29, 2013 4:10 PM - AVacc: I will be there.
Jan 29, 2013 4:03 PM - Kenny P: Then the mission is still a go. See most of ya'll at 7! And Paul, God be with you. :P
Jan 29, 2013 4:01 PM - T Michael: Paul, we will miss you. I understand the feeling.
Jan 29, 2013 2:12 PM - Paul: Friends, I must apologize in advance. A rather unexpected work related emergency forced me to pull an all-nighter in order to meet an unanticipated and important deadline. Work still demands my attention tonight, so I cannot make it to the game. I hate to cancel at the last minute, and rarely do so. I was really looking forward to tonight's game after last week. Sorry.
Jan 22, 2013 5:10 PM - T Michael: Thank you everyone for being a great table and all the compliments. I am happy you are enjoying it and I look forward to next Tuesday.
Jan 22, 2013 1:26 PM - Paul: Thanks for all the great prep work T Michael with the mapping, storyline, etc. And a hearty thanks to the whole party for giving Charinda another chance after being disintegrated by that nasty mad creature who imploded like that!
Jan 22, 2013 10:17 AM - Kenny P: The game continues to be AHHHH!mazing. GMing was top notch.
Jan 22, 2013 9:56 AM - James L: I must say I enjoyed exploring that place. We found journals, saw the meteorite hole, we're piecing together what happened and who was there, and we picked up an awesome fire elemental companion.
Jan 22, 2013 9:27 AM - AVacc: +1 - Great story and great GMing -Love it.
Jan 22, 2013 9:26 AM - Tracy: Awesome game yesterday everyone! That was frightening and fun. Thanks T Michael.
Jan 21, 2013 5:07 PM - Kenny P: I'll bring the [deleveled] changeling cunning rogue I didn't get to fully play from that short-lived Wild Hunt game.
Jan 20, 2013 2:46 PM - Paul: Alright. 7pm tomorrow it is then (Monday, January 21st). And thanks for the heads up on the tpk possibility. I've been reflecting on your words regarding how this encounter "was about to go medieval" on us. So I even have a backup prepared (eladrin wizard mage, in the interest of keeping a controller in our midst.)
Jan 19, 2013 8:32 PM - T Michael: Everyone should bring another character on Monday. It is a very dangerous encounter and some of you may die. There is even the possibility of a tpk, but I want to finish this mod with this group.
Jan 19, 2013 12:17 PM - T Michael: Let's plan on meeting at 7:00 Monday night. I have all four kids this weekend and need to help get them settled before I head out.
Jan 19, 2013 12:01 PM - AVacc: I can be there early.
Jan 18, 2013 6:24 PM - Paul: I am off for MLK day, so I could start at 12:30pm or so.
Jan 18, 2013 5:12 PM - James L: is anyone working MLK day? we could start earlier than 7pm
Jan 17, 2013 5:43 PM - Kenny P: Of course! Count me in.
Jan 17, 2013 5:12 PM - T Michael: Kenny, Can you do Monday?
Jan 17, 2013 4:40 PM - Tracy: Monday is fine with me
Jan 17, 2013 2:40 PM - Paul: Monday MLK day (January 21st) also works for me.
Jan 17, 2013 2:37 PM - AVacc: I am good for Monday, too!
Jan 17, 2013 2:36 PM - James L: I can make Monday MLK-day the 21st.
Jan 14, 2013 11:25 PM - Kenny P: I was sure I posted my skills. Damned server d/c. Religion, Diplomacy, Endurance, Insight. We got enough dungeoneers. :D
Jan 14, 2013 8:31 PM - James L: oh, Paelias the Warlock is trained in Arcana, Bluff, Dungeoneering, History, and Religion
Jan 14, 2013 7:49 PM - Paul: Charinda looks forward to joining this most motley crew of adventurers!
Jan 14, 2013 7:45 PM - Paul: Having been forced to adapt on her own, she is trained in Acrobatics, Dungeoneering, Nature, Perception, and Stealth. She has a climber's kit ready for those situations that need it; and has learned to "push others around" with her crossbow skills just in case they get in the way.
Jan 14, 2013 7:42 PM - Paul: Meet Charinda, a 212 year-old, 16th level Drow Hunter "bitch" if there ever was one. She is unaligned...knows right from wrong...well; there is more to her centuries' old story. Abandoned at birth, she had only her gut and the inspiration from the wilderness upon which to rely....
Jan 14, 2013 4:47 PM - AVacc: Cool Beans
Jan 14, 2013 4:26 PM - T Michael: Stay AVacc. The 22nd is going to be shifted to a mutually convenient date.
Jan 14, 2013 4:24 PM - AVacc: I am running into a problem for the 22nd - I probably cant make it that night - Will that be a problem? Or should I drop?
Jan 14, 2013 4:23 PM - T Michael: Excellent. Keep it coming.
Jan 14, 2013 2:39 PM - Kenny P: Barmaid, muse, warrior. No one knows exactly who (or what) she is, or where she came from. But the lush woman named Maeve is never far from St. Allain's voluminous side, for she goes wherever the Spirits move him. The wildest of rumors tell of Allain, in a drunken stupor, somehow dreaming her into existence. Whatever the stories might say, none can refute the divine power within her. Her Light (if a bit blurry at times) brings joy to the livers of men.
Jan 14, 2013 12:47 PM - James L: After a psychotic outburst in class at how a professor was ignoring the warning signs of the impending doom, which turned out to be false. Paelius was locked up and evaluated. He assured his captors that he is completely in control now, the substances he was using have long worn off. The asylum let him out. Of course, the coercive magic of his words might have had something to do with how quickly they let him out.
Jan 14, 2013 12:45 PM - James L: Every night Paelius has dreams where he flies among the stars. Every night the "bad" stars attempt to turn them to their side, and he speaks to the "good" stars to keep safe from the "bad" stars. Usually these dreams are very squiggly, but they must be real, because every morning he wakes up with magical knowledge he can exhibit in this world. Although recently his dreams have become longer and more real, while the time he spends awake seems less and less real.
Jan 14, 2013 12:45 PM - James L: Only, a year into his studies, he started experimenting with guided meditation combined with mind enhancing substances. He followed the steps outlined in an ancient text. The drugs have changed his personality drastically, he has become Manic-depressive, delusional, and most prominently, paranoid.
Jan 14, 2013 12:44 PM - James L: Paelius, an Eladrin Warlock, was a young, spoiled, rich, arrogant student of the arcane. He was born to a noble Eladrin Family in the feywild. He was sent to the best schools. His father held a place in Court as a Spiral Tactician and Paelius was being groomed to take his place.
Jan 11, 2013 12:21 PM - T Michael: Perhaps, Shamash's simple mind will protect him from the terrors that await your smarter party members. Or maybe high intelligence and will is not a prerequisite to feeling one's molecules tear apart.
Jan 11, 2013 12:10 PM - AVacc: Shamash is a simple fighter trying to make his fortune. His sills are: Athletics, Endurance and Intimidate.
Jan 11, 2013 11:34 AM - T Michael: Could everyone please start providing character name and background. Also, list your trained skills.
Jan 4, 2013 3:57 PM - T Michael: Hope you like the new photo. Very Sauron in a star form.
Jan 4, 2013 3:56 PM - T Michael: Father Ansel Driscus, who by all accounts is a respected priest of Erathis, has asked you to meet him. When you do, Ansel’s grizzled face is etched with concern. “I am worried about an old friend of mine, a sage named Merik. He and I have known each other for years. Three weeks ago, he came to me quite rattled, saying that he had discovered a connection between a number of unexplained disappearances and some astronomical alignments. Merik’s an astronomer, you see.”
Jan 4, 2013 3:47 PM - T Michael: Given the party's vote, we will start on the 15th.
Dec 31, 2012 6:34 PM - Paul: I agree with the others. Moving this back to start one week later works great for my schedule as well. Happy New Year to everyone!
Dec 31, 2012 10:03 AM - James L: excited to play this also, Pushing back a week works for me.
Dec 30, 2012 10:57 PM - Kenny P: Pushing it back a week might not be such a bad idea after all. :/
Dec 30, 2012 10:54 PM - Kenny P: Same here. I'm meeting Tracy and AVacc in ol' granny's chicken shack on Monday. I'm not sure about Sunday yet. I will know more later this week.
Dec 30, 2012 9:54 PM - AVacc: I am in Baba Yaga too and I not sure about sunday, yet :/
Dec 30, 2012 8:15 PM - Tracy: Monday I've got Baba Yaga, but I'm totally up for a Sunday start.
Dec 30, 2012 7:28 PM - T Michael: Happy holidays to everyone! I am excited to GM this mod for you. At my end of year review, I was informed that I must attend an overnight offsite on Tuesday, January 8th. Would the party prefer to delay the start by one week or start on the night of Sunday the 6th or Monday the 7th?

Dec 22, 2012 11:45 AM - Tracy: Sweet...more damages.
Dec 22, 2012 11:24 AM - AVacc: Slayer it is.
Dec 21, 2012 6:03 PM - Tracy: Also Avacc, I vote slayer. ;)
Dec 21, 2012 6:00 PM - Tracy: or umm...drinking buddy.
Dec 21, 2012 5:59 PM - Tracy: F-it. I've wanted to play this guy for awhile. :) St. Allain Bottombarrel can show anyone the light, just drink this. He's never picked a weapon up in his life, unless you consider a fork and a pitcher of ale lethal. At nearly 300 lbs and only 5' 9" to boot, he can barely waddle let alone try to maneuver gracefully with a weapon. He sees the light daily in his flask of whiskey, bottle of wine, and tankard of ale and won't hesitate if he believes he can find a new recruit...
Dec 21, 2012 5:43 PM - Paul: One option to consider for the leader role, in terms of damage capability, is the Warpriest build for the cleric (again, from the essentials line). Just a suggestion.
Dec 21, 2012 5:17 PM - Kenny P: Well, AVacc still hasn't decided on a character yet. If he picks the Slayer, then we will have 3 strikers again. (I know Hunters are primarily controllers, but they have striker damage.)
Dec 21, 2012 5:11 PM - Kenny P: ...
Dec 21, 2012 5:01 PM - Tracy: Now I've got to change everything up. 3 strikers, a defender or controller, and the pacifist would have been totally fine. Now we're missing damage. lol
Dec 21, 2012 4:50 PM - Paul: Hello gents. Just to clarify, the Hunter build for the drow ranger that I am bringing is from the essentials line, i.e. a Controller.
Dec 21, 2012 4:30 PM - Kenny P: I'll be handing out -6 penalties to hit and radiant vulnerability. Oh and a group mindlink so we can all just sit around staring at each other.
Dec 21, 2012 4:28 PM - AVacc: You don't want me to play a defender. Trust me. :)
Dec 21, 2012 4:27 PM - Kenny P: Hmm. I think I will switch to a radiant Chaladin. A three striker team is a TPK waiting to happen without a dedicated defender.
Dec 21, 2012 3:09 PM - AVacc: When you put it that way....
Dec 21, 2012 3:08 PM - T Michael: Choices. Choices. AVacc, do you really want to miss out on your destiny with the stars?
Dec 21, 2012 2:54 PM - AVacc: I can do a Fighter (Slayer) Or a Wizard - What do you think? Also with all the shuffling around of games it looks like I am in three games a week... Might have to drop something.
Dec 21, 2012 11:10 AM - Tracy: AVacc, what are you planning on bringing? I had posted a pacifist cleric when we had 3 strikers, but I'll change that up if you bring a defender as I don't do any damage.
Dec 17, 2012 3:07 PM - T Michael: “The oldest and strongest emotion of humankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown” H.P. Lovecraft
Dec 14, 2012 7:17 PM - Tracy: Just that one time...
Dec 14, 2012 11:52 AM - James L: Sounds fun, like a Call of Cthulhu game.
Dec 14, 2012 9:30 AM - T Michael: Have you ever had your body melted or your mind sucked through a straw?
Dec 5, 2012 1:48 AM - Paul: Drows and dungeoneering? I believe the party will be covered. No aberrant creatures will go unobserved on this drow's watch, by the gods! This looks like a really great adventure!
Nov 20, 2012 5:34 PM - T Michael: For the love of the gods, please make sure someone trains in dungeoneering. Take a background like East Rift or Noble Scion so you actually know something about the aberrant creatures who will torture you and drive you mad.
Nov 18, 2012 6:41 PM - T Michael: Thank you Dan for a great short story. Be warned: Far Realm tentacles will be a worse way to die.
Nov 17, 2012 10:33 PM - Capt_Dan: I look up, and think of this... http://downlode.org/Etext/nine_billion_names_of_god.html
Nov 17, 2012 10:01 PM - T Michael: Have you ever looked up at the starry night and questioned the origin of the universe, where did it all begin . . ., but then you feel a chill in your soul. Is it fear, is it a sense that the stars foretell our end and destruction. It is still not too late for you to return to bed and hope for safety in dreams . . . good luck with that.
Nov 14, 2012 6:39 PM - Capt_Dan: "Bollocks'd"
Nov 13, 2012 9:50 PM - Tracy: Keep with the multiple strikers...I don't do any damage...zero, zip, zilch. I don't even think I could respect myself for rolling crit damage. In return, you will be beneficially blessed, buffed, bolstered, braved, boinged, bravadoed, beefed, bettered and boosted as well as any other b word you can thing of.
Nov 13, 2012 2:48 PM - James L: it might be better to commit and then leave if you can't make it, than to let someone sit there with hope for a month or two.
Nov 13, 2012 2:34 PM - Rob R: Also, fair warning. I'd really like to play in this but am not gonna commit this far out. By early to mid December, I'll know my Jan schedule.
Nov 13, 2012 2:29 PM - Rob R: Awesome. and here I thought you just needed a snickers.......
Nov 13, 2012 12:20 PM - Rob R: you = your pc is what I believe you meant. It reads immensely different :)
Nov 12, 2012 8:53 PM - Tracy: Hmm...with 3 strikers and a controller you make matters tough...decisions, decisions...
Nov 11, 2012 10:22 PM - Xerek: Curse you tuesdays :'(
Nov 10, 2012 12:42 PM - Tracy: Neat, I've never had T Michael as a DM before. :)
