Introductory D&D Adventure
Cost: $0.00
Level: 1

First Session: Tuesday -- December 4th, 2012 -- 7:00 PM
[Eastern Time]

Approx. Length: 1 session

This is a level 1 adventure run by a Meetup Dungeon Master to introduce new players to the meetup, to the Campaign Gaming rules, and to teach people how to play Dungeons & Dragons. Of course long-term meetup members are welcome to join in the fun and meet new members, but brand new members get priority seating via an artificially inflated 100 RSVP score.

This is not always the same D&D adventure. The Dungeon Masters are given a list of level 1 adventures to choose from. They will state in the comments section the name of the adventure and a little teaser text on what players can look forward to.

Look for Dungeon Master's who have earned high numbers in the "DM Feedback" section next to their name. If they have not earned votes, they themselves are most likely beginners, or not vetted by this meetup yet. It is like buying something from someone on Ebay that has no feedback: you are taking all the risk into your own hands. Also avoid Dungeon Master's who do not put a real picture of themselves on their profile.

Dec 13, 2012 2:27 PM - Tails: Where is citicenter
Dec 13, 2012 2:13 PM - Zach: i wish. i'll be working late tonight though. thanks for the heads up.
Dec 13, 2012 2:05 PM - Lisa: Just a heads up. We're trying to fill out a game (or 2) tonight at Citicenter that starts at 6:45. If any of you are interested.
Dec 5, 2012 4:16 PM - Ross H: James: correct, kronoswarp was a no-show. Ogrehombre was on standby - sorry you didn't get to play!
Dec 5, 2012 3:38 PM - James L: You all saw ogrehombre on the "standy" list, and he didn't show, which makes sense. Voting someone a no show gives them negative points. Anyway, I took ogrehombre's name off the list because he wasn't supposed to show up.
Dec 5, 2012 3:29 PM - James L: did kronoswarp really not show up? That kept ogrehombre from being able to play.
Dec 5, 2012 3:06 PM - Ross H: James, can you check up on the voting here? It looks like there's the ability to vote for people on the waitlist.

For everyone in this, please DO NOT vote ogrehombre as a no show!
Dec 5, 2012 2:27 PM - Connolly206: I dont see the ability to vote for Ogrehombre, just kronoswarp who was supposed to be the Wiz.
Dec 5, 2012 2:05 PM - Zach: i noticed that too. not sure why they got voted on either, especially since points are so hard to come by it seems rather unfair to punish someone who wasn't actually supposed to show.
Dec 5, 2012 1:55 PM - Lisa: I like you guys, even though the emotion like is very hard to understand. But, why do we vote on ogrehombre if he was a standby. Sure he didn't show, but was he supposed to?
Dec 5, 2012 12:47 PM - Zach: that was a blast man. thanks for running it.
Dec 5, 2012 9:26 AM - Ross H: Hey everyone - voting is up here, so take a look!
Dec 5, 2012 1:01 AM - Ross H: Great game tonight, everyone - thanks for playing! I'll remind you when voting is up. Also, I've posted another low-level adventure (one that will run over two-three sessions) in January, if you're interested. Goblins, pirates, GOBLIN PIRATES, and their treasure! TAKE their treasure!
Dec 4, 2012 6:30 PM - Ross H: Hey all, I'm here now looking for a table. Brown hair, glasses, brown jacket and grey stripe shirt. Find me when you're here!
Dec 4, 2012 9:31 AM - Ross H: OK, I should have materials for everyone. Please bring a pencil and your character sheet!
Dec 4, 2012 9:30 AM - Brad Shaw: I will need a mini.
Dec 3, 2012 7:10 PM - Connolly206: I have both die and mini
Dec 3, 2012 6:02 PM - Meg: I need dice and a mini. Thanks so much!
Dec 3, 2012 4:06 PM - Lisa: I need a mini. Though, I don't really care how close it is.
Dec 3, 2012 3:21 PM - Ross H: I'll see what I can find. I don't have the deepest mini collection, but I'm sure I can get at least one of those elements ("big" "half-orc" or "giant axe"). Who else needs minis?
Dec 3, 2012 2:29 PM - Zach: assuming that the druid is probably a healer, i think i will bring along a barbarian striker as well to cover our bases. do you have a big half-orc with a giant axe mini ross?
Nov 30, 2012 1:01 AM - Zach: hey meg is your druid a healy druid?
Nov 29, 2012 10:05 AM - Meg: I will be there!
Nov 28, 2012 3:26 PM - Ross H: @Meg can you confirm you're coming next week? Thanks!
Nov 27, 2012 4:34 PM - ExitReality : I'm attending for sure. It's actually 2 blocks away from my job so it's perfect =)
Nov 27, 2012 2:40 PM - Connolly206: Great, I know it well
Nov 27, 2012 2:36 PM - Brad Shaw: I'm in for sure.
Nov 27, 2012 2:21 PM - Ross H: We'll be playing at Citi Center, which is at 53rd and Lex. There's a huge atrium in the building (enter right by the subway entrance on Lex) full of tables, we'll grab a space there.
Nov 27, 2012 2:06 PM - Connolly206: I am confirmed, although I'm not sure where the event will be held, but wherever it ends up being ill get there.
Nov 27, 2012 2:04 PM - Zach: sweet deal, thanks james.
Nov 27, 2012 2:03 PM - Zach: i think what happened is it was my last game with the bonus points and when i committed to 2 it went away. cause i went from 101 to 1.
Nov 27, 2012 2:03 PM - Lisa: I'm still coming. :)
Nov 27, 2012 2:03 PM - James L: ok should be fixed now
Nov 27, 2012 1:59 PM - Zach: rock on, it happens. I'll just keep an eye out to see if someone bails before tuesday.
Nov 27, 2012 1:58 PM - James L: I'll fix that, it shouldnt work that way
Nov 27, 2012 1:57 PM - Ross H: @Zach looks like you got bumped here, sorry.

Actually, everyone currently signed up, can you please just post to confirm that you're definitely coming?
Nov 27, 2012 1:56 PM - Zach: heh, looks like if i commit to the other one i drop my place here. I'll follow along to see if someone is gonna drop before next Tuesday I guess.
Nov 26, 2012 3:24 PM - Ross H: @kronoswarp that sounds great. Wizards are always good things to have around!
Nov 26, 2012 2:37 PM - ExitReality : Hmmm, in that case I would like to play the wizard from page 20 of the quick-start rules.
Nov 26, 2012 11:24 AM - Ross H: I'd suggest that others fill in with "striker" characters - e.g. in the pregens ranger, rogue, barbarian, sorcerer. Also, if someone wants to play a controller-type character, the wizard could be a good pick.
Nov 26, 2012 11:22 AM - Ross H: A few things: 1) don't worry too much about prep. Read the links posted earlier, but we'll take it slow so everyone can figure out what they're doing as we go. 2) you don't need to bring any materials (other than a pencil) if you don't have them. I can supply dice, minis, etc. 3) Party roles: the swordmage and the fighter fulfill pretty similar roles in the party (defender); one of those should be plenty. @Liz and @kronoswarp, if another role appeals, maybe pick a different character?
Nov 21, 2012 6:05 PM - ExitReality : I'd like to try out the Genasi Swordmage if that's okay with everyone.
Nov 20, 2012 8:40 AM - Connolly206: okay dice and miniatures have been purchased.. im not sure i needed them, but I got a bit carried away trying to research tips on how to role play a tiefling warlock. Ross, are there any sites/blogs you think are good resources for inexperienced players, other than the links sent earlier, which I have read.
Nov 19, 2012 5:09 PM - Zach: I'll tackle the defender if you guys want. I'm pretty easy. Just lemme know what we need.
Nov 18, 2012 7:09 PM - Ross H: Meg - the druid would work great. At this point, we have two leader characters (a shaman and a druid), and a striker (warlock). Others may want to think about picking a defender, controller, or more strikers. Let me know if I can help!
Nov 18, 2012 5:19 PM - Ross H: Ok, post if you have any questions! I can certainly bring extra dice, minis, etc for people as needed!
Nov 18, 2012 3:42 PM - Lisa: @ Ross H Thanks! You're the best. I haven't played D&D for 10 years, so . . . let's put that in the no camp. I'll grab one of those pre-gen characters and try to find some old die when I go back home for Thanksgiving.
Nov 18, 2012 12:28 PM - Ross H: That's correct, Liz. But I can bump this up to 6 players, so you're good to join. Have you played at all before?
Nov 18, 2012 12:28 PM - Ross H: That's correct, Liz. But I can bump this up to 6 players, so you're good to join. Have you played at all before?
Nov 18, 2012 12:24 PM - Lisa: So, just to make sure, if I am in the Standby list the day of the game, then I don't come. Right?
Nov 17, 2012 8:55 PM - Ross H: No problem! Read over the docs I linked to earlier as a start, and post if you have any questions!
Nov 17, 2012 8:28 PM - ExitReality : I have absolutely no experience whatsoever, and could use all the guidance I can get.
Nov 16, 2012 8:28 PM - Meg: I have played 3.5th ed before a couple years ago. I'm new to the 4th ed but I've read the rulebook before. I was looking at the premade characters and I think I would be interested in the elf druid if that would fit in well to the party. I've been looking to get into D&D seriously for a long time so I'm pretty excited - but also a little nervous.
Nov 16, 2012 3:33 PM - Ross H: Andrew: Well, Zach's indicated he's playing a Shaman, which plays a somewhat similar role in the party as a Warlord, so the Warlock would probably fit the party better in terms of roles. In terms of the story, I think a tiefling should be just fine.
Nov 16, 2012 3:30 PM - Connolly206: Hey Ross, I am leaning towards either the Tiefling Warlock, or the Genasi Warlord. I have a slight preference towards the Warlock, but would be happy with either. Is there one of those you think might better fit the adventure?
My name is Andrew by the way, I keep meaning to mention that.
Nov 16, 2012 12:12 PM - Ross H: Meg and Kronoswarp, can you tell me what (if any) D&D experience you may have had?
Nov 16, 2012 12:12 AM - Ross H: Connolly: I'm sure you'll pick it up pretty quick. Take a look through the pre-gens and write in whichever sounds most appealing. If you have any questions about the game in general or about how an aspect of a given character works, just ask! Same goes for anyone else here - if you have questions, post away.
Nov 15, 2012 11:32 PM - Connolly206: Hey Ross, I'm looking forward to it. Although I have never played a face to face or pen and paper game of D&D, I am very familiar with the basic rules, concepts, terminology, and even monster classes, and have been playing RPGs on the computer since the early 80's. I think for my first time a premade character makes the most sense. Ill label my pick on the sheet when I decide which to go with I assume?
Nov 15, 2012 5:57 PM - Ross H: Hi Connolly - glad to have you! Have you played D&D before at all? If not, you can find a summary of the rules on the NYC D&D Meetup Group (http://files.meetup.com/47098/D%26D%204th%20ed.%20QuickStartRules.pdf). That includes some pre-generated characters that you could use. There are some other options at http://files.meetup.com/47098/Premade%20lvl%201%20Charcters.pdf. Take a look over those and let me know about if you have any questions!
Nov 14, 2012 8:50 PM - Connolly206: Excited for my first foray into this.
How does one create a character, im used to my computer doing it for me.
Nov 14, 2012 11:55 AM - Zach: sounds great. thanks for putting it up. looking forward to it.
Nov 14, 2012 11:47 AM - Ross H: This will be a one-shot, and I'd like to run it sometime between the Thanksgiving and Xmas holidays. I can be somewhat flexible with the specific date, if this time isn't good for folks - just let me know.
Nov 14, 2012 11:46 AM - Ross H: Hi all - I'm going to be running Prey for Smiley Bob, which involves halflings, goblins, a giant bear, and attempts by many of the aforementioned to eat each other. I mean, what more do you need?
