Keep on the Shadowfell
Cost: $0.00
Level: 1

First Session: Sunday -- June 23rd, 2013 -- 11:00 AM
[Eastern Time]

Approx. Length: 10-12 sessions

Keep on the Shadowfell. The first module released for 4E, it is a fun time. It is estimated to be 10-12 sessions, or around three months of 1/week games.

The town of Winterhaven stands watch over a ruined keep that was once a bastion of good in the realm. This keep overlooks the Shadow Rift, a dark scar in the world that was once a gateway to the Shadowfell but has been dormant for many years. Now, an evil cleric of Orcus, Demon Lord of the Undead, seeks to re-open the gate, and the only thing standing in his way is a small yet determined band of heroes from Winterhaven.

Jun 30, 2013 3:17 PM - kentmagus: I apologize. My mom just went to the hospital, and this completely slipped my mind. I will be there as soon as possible.
Jun 25, 2013 5:25 PM - kentmagus: Sent you the email.
Jun 25, 2013 10:05 AM - Capt_Dan: Fyi - after the game starts, people on the interested list no longer receive emails.
Jun 25, 2013 8:04 AM - Connolly206: Kent,
I can't seem to email you, it always bounces back, can you send me a message at connolly206@gmail.com if you don't mind. I think it's easier to arrange the next session over email, then on here, plus I don't want to continually spam everyone on the interested list for the next few weeks.
Jun 25, 2013 7:02 AM - Sam K.: Hey everyone, looks like I've got plans for July 13. Sorry about that. No worries if you want to keep the date/have the wizard take a break.
Jun 24, 2013 5:37 PM - Daniel: Great gaming this weekend. I am free on the 13th and 14th for a back to back session.
Jun 24, 2013 7:46 AM - Connolly206: Hey guys, so it seemed the group was interested in keeping this going on the weekend which is fine for me. The only issue is that there were conflicts next weekend, and the one after is the 4th and I will be away, so what I suggest is that we pick this up on the weekend of July 13/14th and then make it weekly from there once we clear the holiday. I am willing do both days that weekend if that works for everyone, if not we can just do Sunday. So just let me know what works for you all.
Jun 23, 2013 8:37 PM - Lisa: Great job everyone. Thank you Andrew. I just wanted to point out that when voting for the DM, you can click on both exceptional role playing and exceptional tactics. Also, if you as a player get 3 votes, you get your rsvp score bumped up a number. So, in theory, if everyone votes then up to 4 people can get their rsvp score bumped up one.
Jun 23, 2013 7:51 PM - Connolly206: Thank you everyone for coming today. It's great when you get a group of team oriented players. It sure make it more enjoyable to run the game. Voting is up on the main page so make sure to vote.. It's how points are earned.
Anyway my guess is the next game will be in 3 weeks, but I will send out a message shortly with some possible dates. Thanks again, and make sure to log in and vote.
Jun 23, 2013 10:51 AM - kentmagus: Currently at citi center on 153 E 53rd St. This is where we're playing, right?
Jun 22, 2013 11:04 PM - Connolly206: Great, look forward to it kentmagus
Jun 22, 2013 10:17 PM - kentmagus: Huh. I wasn't actually expecting to be in it. I can bring a level 1 character. Since cleric is optional, I'll make a handwritten character right now.
Jun 22, 2013 2:47 PM - Connolly206: scratch the cleric request, between the warlord and paladin you guys should have enough healing.
Jun 22, 2013 2:11 PM - Connolly206: kentmagus, you are in. can you confirm you're able to make it and you fill the cleric role?
Jun 22, 2013 1:23 PM - Matt L.: Looks like I will have to drop. Happy hunting, guys. Looks like an interesting campaign.
Jun 22, 2013 1:01 PM - Connolly206: One last thing then I will stop the spam: make sure you have:
A lvl 1 4e character and followed the house rules regarding feats, bacgrounds, and equipment.
A set of dice
A pencil or pencils
If you don't have any of the above please let me know now so we can figure it out.. This list closes for RSVP in 1 hour so I look forward to seeing you all there.
Jun 22, 2013 9:23 AM - Connolly206: When you return with the completed map, not only will you be graduates, but you will have taken your very first true steps to becoming adventurers, and will be richly rewarded with 250 gp EACH for your service to the school. Get a good night’s sleep, and good luck on your quest.
Dean Andrew
Jun 22, 2013 9:23 AM - Connolly206: Your quest is a simple task, meet instructor Douven Staul in Wrafton’s inn, found in the town of Winterhaven (2 days travel north of the school. He will give you the library’s remaining fragments of the map of Winterhaven’s once proud keep. Your quest, with his guidance of course, is to complete the map and restore the academies knowledge of the keep.
Jun 22, 2013 9:22 AM - Connolly206: The adventure begins:
Congratulations graduating class of 234. You have trained long and hard for this day, put in countless hours of mundane tasks, studying runes, hacking bags of sand, healing minor wounds…. Well tomorrow is the day you leave the academy and embark on your first real quest!!
Jun 21, 2013 11:30 PM - Matt L.: I'll go as cleric
Jun 21, 2013 9:37 PM - Sam K.: Do we need a healer? Should I go back to being a cleric?
Jun 21, 2013 9:12 PM - Lisa: If someone plays a high dps melee striker, my lazy warlord will be useful. If not . . . guess I'll make something else.
Jun 19, 2013 7:31 PM - Capt_Dan: @Brian - No, combat challenge is not a Power - it is a feat, or feature. The rule is to stop players spamming attacks, but it is defender bread and butter, so not an issue here. The POWER duellists stance, for example, would not be allowed.
Jun 19, 2013 7:21 PM - Connolly206: Brian- the house rule is about moving the game along which in 4e with a 6 person party is a priority. The point is to prevent interrupts that require extra rolling, which are like mini turns. An auto damage/push/hit type interrupt is allowed. Personally I play defenders a lot so initially I had the same concern as you, but although it has altered a couple daily or encounter powers I might have otherwise taken it hasn't actually had much impact on how I played. Make sense?
Jun 19, 2013 7:15 PM - Connolly206: Hey Daniel,
There are actually a few standard arrays that work well I've found. Which you chose is based on personal preference and depending on how heavily you want to rely on your main stat.
(18, 14, 11, 10, 10, 8) (16, 14, 14, 11, 10, 10) (16, 16, 12, 11, 11, 8). I would go with one of those
Jun 19, 2013 6:11 PM - Brian: One question: in the Houserules it says that immediate interrupts that are attack rolls are banned. Won't that cripple a Fighter's Combat Challenge ability and significantly impact their ability as a defender?
Jun 19, 2013 4:01 PM - Daniel: Connolly, thank you I should be good to go for Sunday. When looking at the house rules it says to use the 20 point system and refers to pg 16 for Ability Scores . I see the Standard Array (16,14,13,12,11,10) or (8,10,10,10,10,10 with 22 points. Which one should I use to complete my character's ability?
Jun 19, 2013 7:45 AM - Connolly206: Jessie,
This game might be a bit advanced if its your very first time playing. What I might suggest is check out the monthly meet up which is designed specifically for new players, or if you check the main list here look for a intro game. That being said if you have your heart set on this one I'm sure we could meet early and I can give you a crash course.
Jun 19, 2013 1:10 AM - Brian: I'm an experienced 4E player.
Jun 18, 2013 11:08 PM - Jessie: I haven't. I've briefly scanned through handbook (forget which edition) and can probably get my hands on it again. Is this okay?
Jun 18, 2013 7:20 AM - Connolly206: Hey Jessie,

Have you ever played any version of d&d on paper?
Jun 17, 2013 4:30 PM - Jessie: Hi all! I used to play WoW and have always wanted to try my hand at D&D. It sounds like it, but I wanted to make sure this group is good for noobs like me. Also, what happens if I have to miss one game? Will I be banned from this, and all other groups? I hope not. Thanks, in advance.
Jun 17, 2013 3:46 PM - Connolly206: Hey Daniel, we would be glad to have you, since this is a lvl 1 game it should be a great way for you to get back into it. Bring a pencil some dice, a mini if you have one (if not I am happy to bring one for you) and yes a character. do you have a WoC account and access to the character generator? either way you should use the house rules found here:
if you get stuck please feel free to ask question, or I can send you some pregens to review
Jun 17, 2013 3:37 PM - Daniel: I just want to give the heads up that I'm new to the site. It's been a few years since I have played and I look forward to getting back into it. What do you require us to bring? Also should the character already be generated based on the parameters set in the campaign rules?
Jun 16, 2013 2:00 PM - Connolly206: No problem at all. Takes a bit to get used to the site, but then it becomes pretty user friendly.
Jun 16, 2013 1:52 PM - Seth: Don't know how I missed that. My bad.
Jun 16, 2013 1:17 PM - Connolly206: lvl is always listed on the line under the title, and also on the main adventure list.
Jun 16, 2013 12:44 PM - Seth: Character levels?
Jun 15, 2013 7:29 AM - Connolly206: I should probably note that doing this on weekends means sessions will run longer than was used for the projected 10-12 model. So I would say we could cut that number a good bit.
Jun 14, 2013 11:48 AM - Lisa: Woot woot. Go Connolly!
