Descent: Journeys in the Dark 2ed. boardgame
Cost: $0.00
Level: 0

First Session: Tuesday -- August 20th, 2013 -- 8:00 PM
[Eastern Time]

Approx. Length: 1 session

Descent: Journeys in the Dark (Second Edition) is a board game in which one player takes on the role of the treacherous overlord, and up to four other players take on the roles of courageous heroes. During each game, the heroes embark on quests and venture into dangerous caves, ancient ruins, dark dungeons, and cursed forests to battle monsters, earn riches, and attempt to stop the overlord from carrying out his vile plot.

With danger lurking in every shadow, combat is a necessity. For such times, Descent: Journeys in the Dark (Second Edition) uses a unique dice-based system. Players build their dice pools according to their character's abilities and weapons, and each die in the pool contributes to an attack in different ways. Surges, special symbols that appear on most dice, also let you trigger special effects to make the most of your attacks. And with the horrors awaiting you beneath the surface, you'll need every advantage you can take...

Featuring double-sided modular board pieces, countless hero and skill combinations, and an immersive story-driven campaign, Descent: Journeys in the Dark (Second Edition) transports heroes to a vibrant fantasy realm where they must stand together against an ancient evil.Boardgamegeek link

Sep 3, 2013 9:57 AM - Capt_Dan: Sorry guys, been a busy weekend. Sadly, Mon does not work for me, as my mother is visiting, and that's her last day. Please play without me, and I'll rejoin for the next session. My emails is danporsa (at) hotmail.com. Finally, NerdNYC have a game night at Think on Fri 20th which I will be at - I'm hoping to play Arkham Horror, but we'll see. Check it out, if you're available!
Sep 3, 2013 9:31 AM - Sam K.: Ok putting this up for September 16. Lisa, Phil, Dan - Let me know if that works for you.
Sep 2, 2013 3:09 PM - Connolly206: That works for me
Aug 30, 2013 12:54 PM - Sam K.: Getting tough! What about Monday the 16th since Mondays seem to generally be good for everyone?
Aug 30, 2013 12:05 PM - Lisa: I can't do Wednesdays.
Aug 30, 2013 11:56 AM - Sam K.: How about next Wednesday the 4th?
Aug 28, 2013 12:58 PM - w33dsP: I'll have to avoid Thursdays due to school and probably many Fridays going forward. goddamn Splig.
Aug 28, 2013 12:46 PM - Sam K.: Dan - Can you email me at samkienbaum@gmail.com? It might be easier to coordinate this offsite from now on, and your email is last of our group that I don't have.
Aug 28, 2013 12:33 PM - Capt_Dan:
Aug 28, 2013 12:33 PM - Capt_Dan: If you go into he following week, it get tricky for me - Weds or Thur I can do, maybe.
Aug 27, 2013 7:19 AM - Sam K.: Ok, the rest of that week is pretty busy for me. What about Monday the 9th?
Aug 27, 2013 7:12 AM - Connolly206: I can't actually do that Tuesday at all.
Aug 27, 2013 12:17 AM - Sam K.: Wait - Next Monday is Labor Day, which I can't do. What about Tuesday? I've set it to then, but let me know if you can't make it. Also: here are a couple X-Wing videos. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuhwSma960Y and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mxPFHBCfuU
Aug 27, 2013 12:02 AM - Sam K.: Great game again, everyone. See you next Monday at 7:00 (for a 7:30 start when Phil arrives). Since you won tonight, you get to choose next week's quest, so I'll need at least one of you by 7:00 or so. Let's play X-Wing again, too!
Aug 26, 2013 12:11 PM - Sam K.: I also just picked up the x-wing mini game. So if we finish early, don't feel like jumping into another descent quest, but still want to stick around, I'll bring it along for a look-see.
Aug 25, 2013 6:37 PM - Sam K.: See you guys Monday at 7. Let's keep this at Think Coffee again for now, but ideally we'd like to find somewhere closer to Union Square -- I think that's more centrally located for everyone. Does anyone have an idea for a new location?
Aug 25, 2013 6:36 PM - Sam K.: You fought a valiant battled in an attempt to rescue Frederick and stop Splig, but Splig was able to discover Frederick's identity too quickly and then slip past you to make his escape. Things look good for the overlord... for now...
Aug 25, 2013 6:35 PM - Sam K.: Apparently one of these farmers used to be a Shadow Binder--a figure of some note--and the goblins knew this person could be forced to help the overlord, but they didn't know which farmer it was. You tracked the goblins to their secret cave, where Splig, King of All Goblins, was interrogating the farmers in an attempt to find Frederick, who was the Shadow Binder.
Aug 25, 2013 6:32 PM - Sam K.: After some time in Arhynn and word of more and more goblin attacks, you settled into the farmlands to investigate the origin of these attacks. You came across a burning farm being attacked by the goblins. The goblins abducted the farmer Frederick. At least you were able to stop them before they stole all of his crops as well. Speaking with one of the farmers you learned the goblins had been taking several farmers throughout the land.
Aug 25, 2013 6:26 PM - Sam K.: Your band of adventurers decided to travel to the capital city of Arhynn to lend your might to this struggle, but along the way you encountered the smoldering remains of a caravan. An ambush! They were attacked by giant ettins, but you soon discovered this was an attempt to hide the movements of a small goblin horde, who were trying to take a secret attack route to Arhynn. You succeeded in stopping these foes and the overlord... for now.
Aug 25, 2013 6:23 PM - Sam K.: Recap of the "story" so far: The baronies of Rhynn and Carthridge have long been allies. Led by Baron Greigory and Baron Zachareth, the two lands have enjoyed peace for some time... until now. More and more monsters have been sighted recently and seem much more coordinated than ever before. The rumors of a mysterious overlord appear to be true! If you don't stop this foe, Rhynn and Carthridge will surely plunge into darkness!
Aug 22, 2013 8:21 AM - Sam K.: There's nothing you need to do to keep playing, but you can vote for RSVP points. There are two categories for players and two for the GM, and you can vote for yourself too.
Aug 21, 2013 2:28 PM - w33dsP: good time last night, kudos Sam! not sure what this site needs from me right now? but next Monday works.
Aug 21, 2013 12:35 PM - Lisa: Monday works. I actually like meeting around that area. It's a bit closer to Brooklyn.
Aug 21, 2013 12:30 PM - Connolly206: Monday works for me
Aug 21, 2013 12:19 PM - Sam K.: Great, I've added a second session for Monday at 7. Does that work for everyone? Am open to other location suggestions as well.
Aug 21, 2013 11:59 AM - Capt_Dan: Sam - great game, thanks for running. Definitely up to continue next week.
Aug 20, 2013 11:38 PM - Sam K.: I get paid by the "let me know."
Aug 20, 2013 11:37 PM - Sam K.: Good game! Let me know in the "Days/Time" box to let me know your availability next week, and I'll add another session.
Aug 20, 2013 7:21 PM - Sam K.: I'll be there a little after 7:30.
Aug 19, 2013 10:35 PM - Sam K.: Cool. I'll try to get there a bit early as well to make sure we're set up and ready to go, go over rules for anyone that needs it, etc. Will keep everyone posted on Tuesday. Lisa - it looks like we're a full house for your BF -- sorry!
Aug 19, 2013 10:05 PM - Capt_Dan: Okay, I'm in - I'll try and be there from 7ish.
Aug 19, 2013 9:59 PM - Sam K.: We're going to start at 8 (scheduling necessity this time), so I'd appreciate if all committed parties can be there on time due to the late start.
Aug 19, 2013 9:35 PM - Capt_Dan: Sorry - i'm still trying to confirm. Is it Seven, or Eight?
Aug 19, 2013 8:19 PM - Sam K.: Hey, Lisa! I think you can play with two players and then the one GM, but apparently it's better with more (max of four non-GM players though). A friend of mine should be signing up on the site tonight, but it would still be cool if your BF could make it!
Aug 19, 2013 8:11 PM - Lisa: My boyfriend says he will join us if we really need another player.
Aug 19, 2013 8:07 PM - Lisa: Hi guys. I played a bit of this game before. We need at least 3 people though, right?
Aug 14, 2013 10:04 AM - Sam K.: Sorry for the spam, everyone. Didn't realize there was a character limit on the location field. Am flexible here. Maybe Think Coffee or West Third Common if Think is crowded?
Aug 8, 2013 8:16 PM - Connolly206: You got it!! Awesome
Aug 8, 2013 4:24 PM - Sam K.: I'm open to location suggestions... Possible I can host.
