D&D Next - Scourge of the Swordcoast
Cost: $0.00
Level: 2

First Session: Tuesday -- August 19th, 2014 -- 7:00 PM
[Eastern Time]

Approx. Length: 3-5 sessions

"Scourge of the Swordcoast" is the third in the Sundering series. It takes place after "Ghosts of Dragonspear Castle" which chronicled the efforts of the Red Wizards to unlock the power of elemental nodes located in an abandoned temple dedicated to the Princes of Elemental Evil. A gate to the Nine Hells lay open for some time, spewing devils and smoke. The heroes who closed the gate could not know it then, but amid the chaos of battle, another threat emerged.

Now, savage humanoids are raiding the countryside around Daggerford, causing victims of their attacks to seek out the shelter of the town. Stressed from the weight of the refugees, it's up to a brave group of adventurers to end the raids and free Daggerford from its plight.

Sep 25, 2014 1:52 PM - Kirsten: I hope a sequel is in the works. :)
Sep 24, 2014 2:21 PM - Rob R: Glad to hear it. Sometime in the next couple days, I will post the final session loot. I might run the sequel to this - Dead in Thay. For those that get in, they will be able to run the same PC if interested.
Sep 24, 2014 2:11 PM - David : Oh I agree completely, I look forward to getting into another game with you guys it was great fun.
Sep 24, 2014 1:47 PM - AVacc: Thanks for running Rob - Loved every second. Even the part where you made me beat the crap out of my own party's wizard. :)
Sep 23, 2014 5:58 PM - DancerDan: So, Rob, would it be easier for you to start at 7:30?
Sep 23, 2014 3:06 PM - Rob R: As we disussed last week, bring your current pc and bring a level 4 version for the stirring conclusion of the adventure.
Sep 23, 2014 3:04 PM - Rob R: Aye and their be some more dirty dwarves on the menu for tonight.
Sep 17, 2014 12:56 PM - Kirsten: Lots and lots of dirty dark dwarves (now you see them now you don't)! And I died, but was brought back....:))
Sep 17, 2014 12:46 PM - David : Aww man what did I miss last night?
Sep 16, 2014 4:38 PM - Rob R: I will be playing in Capt Dan's game starting Sept 30th (Hoard of the Dragon Queen). That is going to keep me busy awhile (along with running Temple of Death on Saturdays). After the Hoard game is done, I'll see what I'll run next. Not too excited about Crystal Shard because it's very open and could run much too long for this environment. I'd have to take it a good look at it and see.
Sep 16, 2014 3:00 PM - ANGE: Hey Rob are you running Legacy of the Crystal Shard after this one..
Sep 16, 2014 12:57 PM - Kirsten: I'll see you guys tonight.
Sep 16, 2014 11:10 AM - Rob R: Who knows, there might be other allies skulking around the Dwarven Keep who might be able to help you.
Sep 16, 2014 11:09 AM - Rob R: Since 3 of us are starting Capt Dan's game on Sept 30th we can't afford to skip tonight (Normally I would skip or try to reschedule but I'm already playing twice weeknights).
Sep 16, 2014 9:35 AM - AVacc: I am ready to play but I am fine skipping a night
Sep 16, 2014 9:34 AM - DancerDan: Hmm... it might be tough going without a healer. Should we skip this week?
Sep 15, 2014 1:35 AM - David : Ladies and gents I apologize I am not going to be able to make it this coming Tuesday.
Sep 15, 2014 1:35 AM - David : Ladies and gents I apologize I am not going to be able to make it this coming Tuesday.
Sep 8, 2014 4:34 PM - Rob R: Of course.
Sep 8, 2014 4:26 PM - Kirsten: Is it okay if I come tomorrow the 9th of Sept at 7pm at Citicenter? Or was my place taken?
Sep 2, 2014 12:55 PM - AVacc: Understood!
Sep 2, 2014 12:54 PM - Rob R: just to be clearer - bring the 3rd level version in addition to your current 2nd level version. Since when we last left our band of heroic adventurers, they had captured the southern "entrance" point into town. Now for that pesky river......
Sep 2, 2014 9:54 AM - AVacc: Neat - The Martial Archetype Eldritch Knight is cool as hell :)
Sep 2, 2014 9:49 AM - Rob R: Yes
Sep 2, 2014 8:15 AM - AVacc: Should we bring a 3rd level version of our character?
Aug 27, 2014 12:29 PM - Kirsten: Ha Ha Ha! Druggy!
Aug 27, 2014 12:23 PM - David : Sadly no we lost the boat to the rocks down the river a bit. but we did find a talking squirrel, which Dain was almost positive was either his god talking to him or the result of a barnacle or something he licked on the trip up the river
Aug 27, 2014 11:30 AM - Kirsten: Wow!Did they get the boat back? 7 foot goblin!Swimming in armor? fun fun fun
Aug 27, 2014 11:23 AM - Rob R: Next round, a couple goblin archer arrows followed by one "mace in your face" and the fighter was down. Eric was able to move up and drag Taynarrin into the river and the party swam away while arrows rained around them in the water.
Aug 27, 2014 11:21 AM - Rob R: Kristen, you missed a fun session. The best moment was the part deciding to withdraw (over Dane's strenous objections). So Taynarrin decided to cover their exit by engaging an advancing 7 footish goblin.
Aug 27, 2014 11:10 AM - Kirsten: Thank you!
Aug 27, 2014 10:35 AM - David : Kirsten you were definitely missed last night. I hope you feel better.
Aug 27, 2014 10:35 AM - David : Kirsten you were definitely missed last night. I hope you feel better.
Aug 26, 2014 11:24 PM - kentmagus: Get better soon!
Aug 26, 2014 11:04 PM - Kirsten: I'm not going to be able to play Sept 2nd or the 9th either. I'm sorry. I'll take my name off so someone else can play.
Aug 26, 2014 10:51 PM - Kirsten: I am so sorry. I had major health issues. I wanted to play so bad.
Aug 26, 2014 6:35 PM - DancerDan: On my way!
Aug 26, 2014 10:55 AM - David : I will see you then!
Aug 26, 2014 10:31 AM - Rob R: Reminder - I will see everyone today at CITICENTER (just bolding that part becaus I know some of us are also playing a weekly game at Cranberry)
Aug 21, 2014 1:43 PM - AVacc: +1
Aug 21, 2014 1:40 PM - David : Excellent time the other night fellas can't wait until next week.
Aug 19, 2014 7:10 PM - kentmagus: Just to let you know Rob, we're all here.
Aug 19, 2014 3:23 PM - Rob R: Yea, your PC is already making death saves..... in my mind.
Aug 19, 2014 3:19 PM - AVacc: Is it game time, yet?
Aug 19, 2014 2:52 PM - Rob R: I won't have time to review it as I am at work. I'll look it over at the game.
Aug 19, 2014 2:10 PM - David : Can I send you my character sheet and a flavor idea to review?
Aug 19, 2014 12:11 PM - Rob R: I'd be amazingly suprised if someone didn't have a set to lend out. Assuming I don't forget my dice, I'll have plenty.
Aug 19, 2014 12:09 PM - David : Perfect thanks, one more issue, in my haste this morning I left the house without any dice. Is there someplace nearby I can buy some or will there be extra around?
Aug 19, 2014 11:26 AM - Rob R: Mat is correct. Just go up the stairs and enter citicenter. We'll be in the atrium - which is located below ground level. Just enter the building by the 53rd and Lexington entrance.
Aug 19, 2014 10:57 AM - Mat T: Assuming CC is CityCenter I'm not Ion Interested anymore so I can't tell if it's that or Cranberry Cafe ;)
Aug 19, 2014 10:55 AM - Mat T: Or the 6 to the same station
Aug 19, 2014 10:55 AM - Mat T: It's simple. Take the E to Lexington Ave/53rd St.
Aug 19, 2014 9:35 AM - David : Anyone know the fastest way to get to CC from Downtown near the trade center?
Aug 19, 2014 9:34 AM - David : Anyone know the fastest way to get to CC from Downtown near the trade center?
Aug 19, 2014 2:55 AM - DancerDan: Oh, good point. In that case I'll stay here. Looking forward to it!
Aug 18, 2014 8:40 PM - Rob R: The standby in this game is scheduled to play in the cranberry game. So either game will be short one player.
Aug 18, 2014 7:38 PM - Capt_Dan: Go with what you want; I have a possible replacement player, and you're in the later iteration; BUT - going in the first round would let Mat try again later, too. Your call as to what you wamt to play.
Aug 18, 2014 6:06 PM - DancerDan: Somebody just bailed from the other game at Cranberry, which is starting at exactly the same time, bumping me up from standby into the in-list. Since there are other standby's in this game but not in the other one, I guess I should go play in the other one. Make sense?
Aug 18, 2014 2:06 PM - Rob R: Very Doubtful - I haven't really read thru that section too deeply yet. I already account for good "roleplaying" thru either reduced skill dcs or other benefits. The whole idea of trying to codify good "roleplaying" by giving mechanical benefits sorta turns it into "roll playing".
Aug 18, 2014 1:39 PM - AVacc: Are we using inspiration?
Aug 18, 2014 12:08 PM - AVacc: Show off!
Aug 18, 2014 12:00 PM - Rob R: I know where you live.......... sorta..........
Aug 18, 2014 11:42 AM - James L: To make you guys jealous, they gave out the Monster Manual (weeks early) at Gen Con to the all-access pass people. I have one.
Aug 18, 2014 11:07 AM - AVacc: I already made a fighter after reading the notes here a little more carefully :)
Aug 18, 2014 11:03 AM - Rob R: I think the party as currently constituted is better balanced - 2 fighters, paladin, cleric, wizard. With three frontliners , if you want to switch from fighter to something else feel free.
Aug 17, 2014 12:33 PM - AVacc: Rob, I was going to make a fighter but should I create a wizard or a sword mage?
Aug 17, 2014 12:32 PM - AVacc: I wont have my PHB until Tuesday but I wont be home to get it for the game
Aug 17, 2014 12:19 PM - David : I think its important for a group to be balanced, I will try to create a good healy cleric that can still do some damage.
Aug 17, 2014 12:11 PM - Rob R: Also - we will playing with feats and multiclassing rules (the PHB has the rules for that).
Aug 17, 2014 11:36 AM - Rob R: Also - while I'm a big believer / fan of people playing what they like, that usually works better for one or two sessions adventures. Something longer like this, you'll feel the lack of healing magic sooner or later. And you'll feel it hard.
Aug 17, 2014 11:33 AM - Rob R: @ DancerDan - yes I will be bringing a pre-gen for you. Also for Kristen.
Aug 16, 2014 4:01 PM - David : well in that case I will switch out and play a cleric for this game.
Aug 16, 2014 4:00 PM - David : well in that case I will switch out and play a cleric for this game.
Aug 16, 2014 1:05 PM - Capt_Dan: As long as they roll high for initative...
Aug 16, 2014 12:56 PM - DancerDan: You're bringing a pre-gen wizard for me, right?
Aug 16, 2014 12:51 PM - Rob R: Also - party composition currently is 2 fighters, a paladin, a wizard and a warlock. They walk into a bar........ do they survive long enough to get their first plot hook.... ;)
Aug 16, 2014 12:35 PM - Rob R: Also - besides David, anyone using the PHB (as opposed to the Basic PDF) to build their PC?
Aug 16, 2014 12:31 PM - Rob R: Use the standard array - 15,14,13,12,10 & 8. And max HPs for 1st level.
Aug 16, 2014 12:03 PM - David : Chracter creation are we doing point buy or 4d6 drop lowest reroll 1's? I am trying to create my warlock today?
Aug 13, 2014 11:59 AM - Rob R: Yessir
Aug 13, 2014 11:10 AM - AVacc: Are we starting at level 2? Cant wait.
Aug 13, 2014 11:07 AM - Rob R: OK - after playing thru the Mines of Phand#$%&&!@ (and TPKing at the end - DM's dice were HOT) I feel pretty good about getting thru this in five sessions. It will depend of course on the choices the party makes. After the first two sessions we'll see where we are and more accurately adjust.
Aug 9, 2014 6:30 PM - Rob R: Also I'll bring the pregen from the starter set for you.
Aug 9, 2014 6:14 PM - Rob R: All I ask, is that you download the free basic rules (link provided below by Dan) and familiarize yourself with the class you would like to play and skim through the playing the game part (Pg 57 thru 77) and if your going to play a caster (pg 78 thru 71 plus your classes cantrip / 1st level spells).
Aug 9, 2014 6:04 PM - Rob R: DancerDan - don't worry about picking it up as you go along. Anyone who has played any version of DnD / d20 will have no problem. Also, the complexity between 1st and 2nd level is such in this edition, that it is expected one would from 1st to 2nd level in one game session.
Aug 9, 2014 4:22 PM - Capt_Dan: (I have the PHB, and I am loving it, so far..!)
Aug 9, 2014 4:19 PM - Capt_Dan: DD - Stay in this game; Rob's a great DM and it's only L2. Also, you can get the FULL, FREE, Basic rules on the WOTC website - http://dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/basicrules - which covers everything you need to play, and enough on characters/classes to build a perfectly good Wizard.
Aug 9, 2014 2:49 PM - DancerDan: Or should I switch to Capt_Dan's game, which seems to be lower level and scheduled for the same timeslot?
Aug 9, 2014 2:42 PM - DancerDan: I've been playing Pathfinder recently, but I don't have any WOTC material. I'd like to "try before I buy", but I'm worried that other people will be annoyed by me trying to learn the rules on the fly. Your thoughts? Ideally I'd like to try playing a pre-gen wizard.
Aug 2, 2014 5:32 PM - Kirsten: Great- I'll see you then.
Aug 2, 2014 10:30 AM - Rob R: Correct - I just adjusted the first date lead page to match the 1st date above
Aug 2, 2014 8:12 AM - Kirsten: So just to confirm, our first meet-up date is on the 19th and not the 5th of August?
Jul 31, 2014 12:46 PM - Rob R: As I stated below (on 7/16) - I'm adjusting the dates.
Jul 24, 2014 12:15 PM - Capt_Dan: Rob, I'm going to drop out and run something in parallel. I'm really enjoying DMing 5e, and we've got a lot of new people, too.
Jul 24, 2014 12:54 AM - Ryan: Are new players welcome to attend?
Jul 20, 2014 4:17 PM - Capt_Dan: In person. Citi Center is at 53rd & Lex, the 6/E/M trains come right in underneath it.
Jul 20, 2014 3:50 PM - DonovanHall: Sorry for the obvious questions, but where is the citi center?
Jul 20, 2014 3:02 PM - DonovanHall: Is this an online game or in person?
Jul 18, 2014 3:39 PM - Capt_Dan: If it's an option int eh basic rules, then I think it's fine. Just make sure you fully understand the implications - multiclass at lower levels might be a weaker build, at least in some ways.
Jul 18, 2014 2:37 PM - David : OK so Going to the basic set to put together a character. There are some notes on Multiclassing on Page 56, is that an option for this campaign?
Jul 18, 2014 2:15 PM - AVacc: Damn... Searched EnWord for 20 minutes.... Thanks James
Jul 18, 2014 2:14 PM - James L: and the location of it http://www.enworld.org/forum/rpgdownloads.php?do=download&downloadid=1057
it is the 149.2 kb file "character sheet - form fillable"
Jul 18, 2014 2:12 PM - James L: brand new form-fillable pdf character sheet. You mau have to be logged in to EnWorld http://www.enworld.org/forum/rpgdownloads.php?do=file&fileid=2346

Jul 18, 2014 2:08 PM - Capt_Dan: ...mot a crayon?
Jul 18, 2014 2:02 PM - AVacc: Pahleeze - I use a pencil!!!
Jul 18, 2014 1:59 PM - Capt_Dan: Nothing I've seen, just the printable sheets at the end of the Basic Rules pdf - pen and paper time!
Jul 18, 2014 1:40 PM - AVacc: Is there someplace to get character sheets? Perhaps an editable PDF?
Jul 18, 2014 1:36 PM - Capt_Dan: Gavin played the new, official rules for a few sessions now, I would strongly suggest to stop using the play test material - it will be unbalanced. Also, either create a character using the basic rules; simple, I know, but it's worth going back to basics. Otherwise, this game might get delayed until the new PHB is out, in which case we can go from that - I'd be happy to run a pre-game char creation clinic if not everyone wants to get the book.
Jul 18, 2014 1:12 PM - kentmagus: My question was more, are the playtest paladins allowed, or are we limited to the D&D basic classes?
Jul 18, 2014 1:03 PM - David : Well Since there are no Shaman in the 5e Rules that I have seen I am like going to play a Paladin.
Jul 18, 2014 1:00 PM - kentmagus: No paladins?
Jul 17, 2014 3:26 PM - Kirsten: Coolness.
Jul 17, 2014 3:25 PM - Rob R: Kristen - yup. I will bring you a fighter pre-gen.
Jul 17, 2014 3:22 PM - Kirsten: Hey Rob- will you bring a pregen for me? I prefer playing fighter types but I am open to playing anything that will make the group as a whole stronger.:)
Jul 16, 2014 2:10 AM - Rob R: @ David - This game will be run under the just released version of DnD (i.e., 5th edition / Next). I am almost positive their will be no shifters or shaman. Is your PC a 4th edition build?
Jul 16, 2014 1:17 AM - Rob R: Ooops - spoke to soon. Game will be starting Aug 12th or 19th.
Jul 15, 2014 5:31 PM - Rob R: It's likely that it will start Aug 5th.
Jun 5, 2014 4:56 PM - Rob R: This is a preliminary game. I will be finalizing the exact start date later in the month of July.
