Curse of Strahd +
Cost: $0.00
Level: 1

First Session: Saturday -- November 25th, 2017 -- 12:00 PM
[Eastern Time]

Approx. Length:

On the Sword Coast, sailors tell tales of a roiling fog that spirits ships away- never to be seen again. Gypsies spin stories further of a place filled with dread, where the sun never shines and the land itself forbids escape. Mothers ply their children with such stories, if only to scare some good into them; yet, that there are those who go missing is true enough. Even now several fledgling adventurers are drawn to the coastal town of Daggerford, seemingly by chance. Unbeknownst to these chosen few; a malevolent mist is settling in to welcome them.

Nov 7, 2017 4:35 PM - Collin: If anyone would like to be contacted about this game in the spring, most likely late February or early March, you may let me know at local.dungeons.and.dragons@gmail.com and I will reach out to you directly at a later date. I will continue to run something closer to home in the meantime, so those near Bergen county in NJ are welcome to inquire about that as well. Apologies for any disappointment or inconvenience- thanks everyone!
Nov 7, 2017 4:22 PM - Collin: I am pleased with the interest but second-guessing starting this campaign right as we head into the holidays and winter weather. I think it would be best to begin in the spring when the group has a better chance of getting established with consistent sessions... I am also hoping that 601 Lexington may be reopening in early 2018 as a possible location.
Nov 7, 2017 1:51 PM - gwen0414: Hi! I would like to play! Probably a High Elf Sorcerer. Is there still room?
Nov 6, 2017 10:52 AM - Collin: Let's plan to meet at 550 Madison Ave to start- there is a cafe in the seating area here that is sometimes open, and there are public bathrooms inside. I recommend bringing drinks and snacks, but there are some options in the area.
Nov 6, 2017 10:16 AM - Boris: Something came up for me that weekend. So I need to back out for now. Keep me in mind for later if people drop out! This looks like it could be an awesome campaign.
Nov 2, 2017 5:13 PM - Collin: A few other notes- I expect this campaign to be a bit challenging; some elements are very unforgiving. The overall feel of the content is markedly less whimsical than some of the other published adventures... Please keep in mind that if Xanathar's content has any grey area rulings, there may not be sage advice to refer to, some elements may be interpreted at my discretion.
Oct 30, 2017 8:08 PM - David: Ugh - something came up for that specific Saturday, so I'm dropping my committed slot. I will definitely stay tuned though.
Oct 30, 2017 1:22 PM - Collin: Some locations being considered are the public space at 550 Madison Ave or the seating area at one of the Whole Foods. I am open to checking out other suggestions
Oct 30, 2017 1:14 PM - Collin: Hey all, as we move toward our intended start date please feel free to commit if you haven't already. This game will likely span over several months so there is a good possibility that standby players will be invited to take an open seat. If and when you settle on a character idea, please update that here to help the party take shape. I can answer other questions that may not have been addressed below.
Oct 25, 2017 1:59 AM - Boon: I'd love to play if a spot frees up!
Oct 17, 2017 10:59 AM - be_radder: The Zealot Barbarian sounds like it could have potential for sure.
Oct 16, 2017 2:51 PM - be_radder: This sounds like the type of game I'm looking for. No idea what I'd play yet though...
Oct 6, 2017 2:32 PM - Michael D: If I am to join, I'll send you my character before we play bud
Oct 6, 2017 2:28 PM - Michael D: This looks interesting..
Oct 5, 2017 6:16 PM - Collin: @Kent Content from the official, published 5e books should be acceptable with few exceptions. Things from UA, other sources, and certain campaign-specfic releases, like the Aarakocra race, aren't options for this. I'll give final 'approval' but that should cover most things
Oct 5, 2017 4:11 PM - kentmagus: Tommy brings up a good point. What races and classes, sources, etc. are allowed?
Oct 5, 2017 2:27 PM - Collin: Good ideas! I am okay with trying whatever final versions make it into Xanathar's, but generally no UA content or versions. Multiple character concepts are probably good to have because the adventure seems pretty deadly...
Oct 4, 2017 9:40 PM - Tommy T: Leaning towards Human Rogue (Inquisitive) from Xanathar's Guide. Thinking maybe something along the lines of the Investigator, Urban Bounty Hunter or Haunted One backgrounds. Sort of a haunted detective angle. Subject to change if Xanathar's includes the Hexblade haha.
Oct 4, 2017 11:29 AM - ANGE: Ghastly Halfling Death Monk.. background far traveler.
Lizardfolk Swamp Druid (Shaman).. Background hermit.
Oct 3, 2017 2:06 PM - Collin: So, having read through CoS and the other Ravenloft material- this is very much an adventure in gothic horror. There is a lot of emphasis on the story and characters; and the events are very open-ended depending on player interaction.

It will be important for PCs to have fully fleshed-out personalities, with bonds/flaws/ideals and other traits with consideration for alignment. These are important not just for flavor- but because they can be referenced mechanically throughout the adventure.
Oct 2, 2017 4:56 PM - Collin: I am thinking it might be a good idea to push back starting a new game until the end of November; since many people will be looking forward to using the new character options that will be released in Xanathar's Guide to Everything.

@Kent - CoS is my first choice at the moment but I'm definitely open to running Princes of the Apocalypse if there ends up being a greater interest in it. Any prep I've done for CoS won't go to waste being shelved for later. Thanks for letting me know!
Oct 2, 2017 3:56 PM - kentmagus: I vote for Princes of the Apocalypse.
Sep 26, 2017 9:02 PM - Alan: Still probably wouldn't do weeknights regardless of location lol
Sep 26, 2017 3:07 PM - Collin: @Alan dw I can always run something separate in Jersey... lol
Sep 26, 2017 3:05 PM - Collin: My other choice of game to run would be Princes of the Apocalypse, because we weren't able to finish that and I want to know how it ends anyway lol
Sep 26, 2017 2:45 PM - Alan: I wouldn't mind Sundays, but weeknights probably won't work well for me.
Sep 26, 2017 2:42 PM - Collin: @ANGE That is a good point about Saturdays being potentially overloaded... The details are still up in the air for this, that's why I put a date in November. I know I could do Sundays, and if there was enough interest I would consider a weekday. I mostly wanted to throw something up here now to give time for people to stumble across the listing and see how many people are interested in the campaign
Sep 26, 2017 2:20 PM - ANGE: More Saturday games? maybe I should change mine to a week night..
Sep 22, 2017 6:27 PM - Alan: Saturdays should work for me, though I would prefer starting at 12 PM.
Sep 20, 2017 8:01 PM - Collin: Tentative date and time to begin 5e Curse of Strahd- content from earlier iterations of this adventure as well as related Ravenloft modules will also be included. I am still gauging interest, so feel free to comment or ask questions. I will add more information at the end of September!
