This game is part of the 08/07/2010 Manhattan D&D Meetup.
Please make effort to be on time. The surest way to get on the DM's "Kill This PC First" list is to be late for the gaming session.
I am running this game primarily with new(er) players in mind, but I am happy to include veterans at the table, as long as you promise to play nice and help give any newbies a good intro to D&D. No one likes a game hog. While I have over 25 years experience playing D&D, this is my first DMing session after a 1-year break, so I'm hoping to run a low-key, fun game for all.
I plan to run one of the 1st level "Chaos Scar" adventures from WoTC. If you are already familiar with any of these adventures, PLEASE let me know in advance; I may be able to adjust by selecting a different adventure if you let me know ahead of time. But if you have played or read more than one or two of the 1st level Chaos Scar adventures, I may need to ask you to step aside and let someone else take a seat at the table. No one likes a spoiler and it's rarely very fun to play through an adventure when you already know all the surprises anyway.
I will bring pre-gen characters, but you are welcome to bring your own 1st level PC if you want to. If you decide to bring your own character, it must be "Character Builder Legal" -- standard PH point-buy and starting gold. You may select ONE background benefit (message me if you don't know what this means). If you are bringing your own PC, please post on the Meetup site what you are planning to bring so I know and so we don't end up with an extremely unbalanced party (4 strikers or whatever).
Experienced players: I use stand-up paper minis for my games. If you are bringing your own PC, let me know what your PC looks like and I'll try to have something on hand to represent your PC (or if you have a graphic that you think would be good, feel free to send it to me). If you have a mini you'd like to use, that's fine, too.
Any completely new players: All you absolutely have to bring is your imagination, something to write with and perhaps a pad of paper. A set of D&D dice of your own is helpful, but not required. (you can buy a set at Compleat Strategist for ~$5) It is also helpful if you read the D&D "Quick Start" rules beforehand, which you can download for free here: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/TryDnD.aspx
Don't worry if you don't understand everything at first; it will become clearer through gameplay.
Feel free to message me via the Meetup site with any questions/issues.
Look forward to gaming with you!
